I'm trying to determine the parents or siblings of Benjamin as well. He and Frances Rottenberry married in Warren County, NC, on 19 April 1810; the same day as Daniel Rottenberry and Mildred Douglass. Rottenberry was spelled variously at that time and today is Writtenberry. One would suspect Daniel and Frances were siblings. These two families lived near one another in Mecklenburg County, VA. Benjamin Carroll was on a Mecklenburg County tax list for the year 1810. A Benjamin Carroll of Mecklenburg County is also found on a War of 1812 roster. He appears to have died before the 1820 census. His widow, Frances, is found in the 1830-1850 Mecklenburg censuses as Frances or Fanny. In 1850, Frances Carroll is 75 years old, a pauper, and head of household that includes adult females; Mary Carroll, age 39, and Wilmuth Carroll, age 35. Also included are children; Mary, age 13; Julie, age 9; Margaret, age 8; and Martha, age 2. In 1860, Julie Carroll's marriage to Henry Connell (Conner) reports her mother's name, no father, implying Mary to be unmarried. In the 1850 census, a neighbor is Wm. T. Carroll, age 37, with wife, Sally. He may be a son. As well, near is Thomas Cannon, age 62, with his wife, Jane, age 38. They married 29 October 1847 in Mecklenburg County, VA. In their household are three children; Jesse Wade, age 12, William Wade, age 8; and Benjamin Carroll, age 11. Benjamin appears to have been one of Frances Carroll's grandchildren, and of course likely to have been named for his grandfather. Do you have any other information or clues about Benjamin? He probably is connected to the Carrolls of Warren County, NC, but the connection is yet to be discovered. I'd like to hear from you.

I have some Sterling Carrolls in my records out of Moore County, NC in late 1700s early 1800s. My line appears to disappear in Moore sometime in the early 1800s - have seen some notes that say some went to Forky Deer, TN - my line surfaces in 1830s in possibly Amite or Pike Co., MS, then on to Union County, Arkansas. Any connection?

Tenn. They have been hard to trace because everyone seems to hit a brick wall at Sterling Carroll. From what I can find out you might also want to look in North Carolina as there were several Carrolls moved out of North Carolina to Tennessee between 1800 and 1820. If you have any other names I will see if they match any of the Carroll's I have found so far.

The information that I have is: Unknown Carroll married Margaret L. Wallace b.1 Sep 1852 d. 11 Aug 1927. Margaret is buried in Willis Cemetary, Harrisburg, Poinsett Co., Arkansas. Their children are: Robert Lee Carroll b. 18 Dec 1880 in TN (unknown place), George F. Carroll b. 5 Dec 1872 d. 6 Nov 1952, Henrietta Carroll b. unknown d. 1912, Sidney A. Carroll b. 1870 d. 1929, Andrew Jackson Carroll (or Jackson Andrew, I'm not sure which, I have heard him called both) b. unknown d. 1932, Leroy Carroll b. 1892 d. 1913, Katy Carroll b./d. unknown. I know that some of this Carroll family were in Potts Camp, Marshall Co., MS for a period of time in the early 1900s (1910 and earlier) and some of them are buried in Willis Cemetary with Margaret Wallace Carroll. I have asked the oldest living Carroll that I am aware of (he is 92) and he said that he never heard anyone mention his grandfather Carroll's name and he never met him e! ither. This has made it very difficult to find the ancestors. Thank you again for your offer to search records. If you ever need anything from NE Arkansas, please let me know and I will do what I can.
