All I know is that my GGF Francis Carroll was placed on a commercial boat in Liverpool at age 7 years old in the late 1850's. I assume his father died. The story is that his sister Mary was the one who asked the ships captain to take care of him or "sold him?". I think of the story 'Oliver' when I say sold him. Mike

No one is alive now who remembers more of this story, and I have not done any serious searching in Ireland. Does this story ring any bells? Agnes

I am also descended from Carroll's, but from my fathers side from New York State, in Chautauqua Couny. They actually lived in the Town of Carroll hehe. My ancestor is Stephen (David) Carroll (wife Mary), his daughter (Belinda Carroll). I cannot find any information past these two people and I do not have birth, death, or marriage dates. Might any of you know these people at all? If so, I would like a line of descent if at all possible. Thanks Andrew andrewwaite@hotmail.com

This is a link that one of our RootsWeb gurus passed along to the listowners today. I found it interesting and although it's off-topic thought it might be helpful to all of us especially those new to the internet world. http://pub76.ezboard.com/fsunshine35446frm8.showMessage?topicID=58.topic It is concise and plain speaking, and seems to contain all the components that are relevant. Cal Phillips, Listowner/Admin. P.S. You are welcome to reprimand me for this off-topic post.
