For Gary Barnes: I am interested in your posting about ANY CARROLLS from Tipperary County. My ancestor, Absalom Carroll, came from County Cork, Ireland. Having checked the Irish Carroll sites, I have learned that a great many of the Carrolls lived in the County Tipperary area. They were members of one of the largest and strongest Irish clans. Please share your information if you have anything on Absalom Carroll. Thanks, Alma B. Reed

My mother said her father Charles William Carroll was born in Virginia sometime in the 1800's probably 1840-1860, she said he was born in Roanoake or Richmond, his first wife, whos name is unknown to me produced at least one child named Olie Carroll, Olie married Commodore Kelly in Ada OK on 2/1/1903. Charles William Carroll then later married my Grandmother Ida Leona Needham who was born 7/13/1885 in Dyer County TN. Ida had also previously been married to a man whos last name was Nixon and they had at least one child my half uncle Joe or Joseph Nixon. Charles William Carroll and Ida Leona Needham/ Nixon are thought to have been married in Texas as that is where my mother Bertha Faye Carroll was born on 9/22/20, and my Aunt Gertrude Gaye Carroll was born in Dec of 1921. Bertha married a Max Carlisle and they had one son named Charles Clinton Carlisle who was born 7/31/39 in Uvalde TX. She later changed her name to Jonny Faye Carroll! and Gertrude dropped the name Gertrude and just went by Gaye. Charles William Carroll was supposedly shot in the head as his hat was mistaken for a crow by some youngsters out crow hunting and he is buried in Texas somewhere, he would have died in 1935 as mother said she was 15 when grandpa died. If any of this sounds familiar please feel free to email me or post a message on the board. Thank you peace love light and eternal grooviness to all

This is the first I've heard of that particular book. Sounds interesting. I've had pretty good luck in getting such books through inter-library loan. If anyone knows how to find or get it, I hope they will post it to the list. Thanks for bring it to our attention, Shirley. Cal
Good Morning Cal and List, I am new to the Carroll mailing list and have already had several "hits" that have helped me piece together the history of the "Louisiana" Carrolls. Found cousins I had lost contact with through the years, and found more. I am now able to continue my work on the siblings and descendants of John Edward Carroll and Mary Strain. It is beyond my comprehension as to why people would "drop off" the list because of increased activity. You never know when that particular posting might be what helps knock down the brick wall. I've learned from the other lists I subscribe to, if the message doesn't pertain to you, use your pinky and hit the "delete" key. I have been searching for the book "The Heritage of Our Children" by Francis Carroll of Victoria, Texas. I understand there are over 70 pages of information that pertains to my branch of the Carroll's. Do you or anyone else on the list know where I could obtain a copy of this book? I am working Carroll, Whittington, Domingue, Bourg, Schexnayder, Pitre, Prejean (my ancestry) Metrejean/Maitrejean, Broussard, O'Donnell, Vicknair, Achee (my husband's ancestry) and interested in the collateral lines. Keep up the great work and thank you, Shirley Metrejean

As most of you have noticed, I recently "gatewayed" our message board to the List. That means that any message posted on our board, and only on our board, will also be automatically sent to everyone on our list. I know that a few subscribers dislike the additional messages. We have probably lost a half-dozen because of it. However, we have probably added three times that number of subscribers as a result. The further advantage is that we are seeing more family information which has value to serious family researchers. I would suggest to anyone who might be bothered by the increase in activity, that they unsubscribe to the -L list and resubscribe to the digest (-D) list.
