    1. [CARROLL] Y-DNA Search for Immigrant Ancestor
    2. Eric Olson
    3. The Census Bureau tells me that surname Carrel is found at a frequency of 1 / 4.35 million in the USA. At the time of the Revolutionary War the total population in the Colonies was about 300,000. I can roughly guesstimate then that there may have been about 14 Carrels here in the 1780s, and perhaps 7 were male. Point is they were rare. My ancestor Philip Carrel would be one of them. Now I find another Philip Carrel in the Maryland Archives of 1730. Perhaps he is an ancestor, perhaps not. But the interesting thing is that in the Maryland record Philip Carrel is in court charged with fornication. (For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge)? This complicates my Y-DNA search for immigrant ancestor by haplotype and surname. At the moment there are zero matches (except for a cousin). If said fornication resulted in a male child, he could be surnamed anything at all, but genetically related. Eric DY8VJ

Author: sleepygal48 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.carroll/35.2.2.2/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Hi Susan, I just read your message again and I want to thank you for all the information on our mutual Carroll family. However, I don't descend from Luke's son Alfred.....I descend from Luke's daughter Eliza's son Alfred. Unless of course you weren't referring to me in your message. I assumed you were since I was the last to post on this thread prior to your posting. If I've misunderstood I apologize. It does get confusing when families reuse names like they do. I can fill you in on some of Eliza's family if you're at all interested. I was doing a bit of research today and did find Luke and Elizabeth on the 1850 Census for Meigs County. So if he died in 1850 it was after the census was taken. I don't find them in 1860, so assume they died prior to that census. On the 1850 census their ages were given as Luke: 78, and Elizabeth: 72. Hope this helps a little. Thanks again for all the information. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. If Lorenzo Carroll is also one of the siblings then we are in the right ballpark.
