    1. [CARROLL] Dempsey Carroll
    2. Lura
    3. Eric, This Dempsey, sometimes called Demse or James Demse or Demse James is thought to be the son of Daniel. This Dempsey had a son and at least two grandsons named Dempsey. His son Dempsey married Mary Hall and moved to KY. I think one grandson Dempsey was in a western VA county, and another grandson Dempsey was later in KY. I have never been able to establish any connection between he and the Demcy/Dempsey I found in Sampson in 1770.(and I think came there from Halifax County, NC.) There may be a connection. 3. Bettye, No, I don't know Dempsey's siblings. In Halifax County, NC he lived by Thomas. In Sampson he owned land near Stephen, Alexander, Thomas, Elisha, Dempsey, Jr., John, James, and Jesse. The DNA tests tell us he was definitely related to Jesse and Alexander. He was likely related to John and a couple of others born around 1800. The administrator of the CARROLL project now has the results displayed in .pdf format. You need the free Adobe Reader to see the web page. If you don't have that on your computer, you can download it from several places, but you might want to read about it here http://www.educ.ttu.edu/howto/acroreader.html One good thing about having it in .pdf format is that you can actually save the page to your hard drive. You can access the site by going to http://www.childtalk.com/History/carrollfamilydna.html then click on "Carroll Family DNA Values". Or you can also go directly to http://www.childtalk.com/History/carrollfamilydnavalues.pdf When you get to the site, you can make the font size larger by clicking on the + in the menu at the top. Hope that helps, Lura ----- Original Message ----- From: "Bettye Wingate" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Friday, October 12, 2007 11:05 PM Subject: Re: [CARROLL] William N. 1. [CARROLL] Carroll Surname FamilyTree DNA Project
    2. Mike Carrroll
    3. Larry: Kevin Carroll is the Project Coordinator for the Carroll Surname Family Tree Y-DNA Project. Below is an excerpt of an e-mail he sent on January 2, 2006 explaining the goals of the project and the web links for joining the project: Dear Carroll Family Surname Project Member and also Prospective Member, The Carroll Surname DNA Project at FamilyTreeDNA.com has made great strides in the fifteen months that it has existed. Already twenty-six Carroll family members have submitted their DNA for sampling; twenty-two results are posted. Before saying anything else, I want to encourage any of you who are asking, “is it a good idea to join?” to do so. I hope that the following information will allow to see some of the reasons why. Comparison of DNA is an invaluable tool which can help us to find family members, lost family lines, and trace back to our beginnings. The Carroll Clan which had many different septs or branches, is descended from the Sons of Milesius, King of the Milesians, who invaded Ireland about 3600 years ago and eventually conquered the original inhabitants and became masters of the land ( Scotland and Ireland ). If you read all of the following you will understand that there were many Carroll Clans who originated in the dawn of antiquity. This great DNA study, possible only now in our lifetime will eventually bring greater understanding of our family heritage. Our ancestors became separated not only during the Gaelic invasions of Ireland but also in the conflagration of Viking Invasions, Norman Invasions, immigration to the European Continent in the 1600 and 1700’s, and finally the forced departure to the New World either because of poverty, famine, or opportunity in the 1700’s to 1900’s. The objective of the project includes: 1 Information for Genealogy Research and finding family members dispersed by the famine holocaust. 2 Identical Markers will prove common Male ancestors. 3 Project will attempt to find family who can trace their origin to prior to the Battle of the Boyne and the Flight of the Earls and Plantation Ireland. 4 Enable Carroll members to know which Sept or Branch they belong, if we can find reliable lineage pre-Battle of the Boyne. If you have more interest please follow these links and they will give you some more info. If I can answer any of your questions I will be happy to do so. If I cannot, I will transfer your questions to the folks at ftdna or to members in our group. If you are a female Carroll it will be necessary to find a male Carroll relative who can contribute. We encourage you to join this project and become Member! 1. Re: [CARROLL] William N. Carroll
    2. My G-Grandfather was William N. Carroll born in 1853, possibly in Toronto, Canada. On November 17, 1885 he married my G-Grandmother, Anna Bergetta Bellings who was born February 2, 1865 in Decorah, Iowa. Her parents were Ponsianus Sebaldusen Bellings & Martha Johnson, immigrants from Trondheim, Norway. William was an inventor & veterinary surgeon. He had 3 brothers; John of Tecumseh, Iowa - Luke of Minneapolis, Minn. - I do not know the name of the third brother. He also had 2 sisters; Martha and I do not know the name of the second sister. One of the two sisters lived in Dubuqe or Des Moines, Iowa. William & Anna Bergetta had 2 children; Sarah Elizabeth Carroll born August 25, 1886 in Valley City, North Dakota, and Frank Harley Carroll born March 4, 1888 in Lisbon, North Dakota. I do not know when or where William died as in 1893 he abandoned Anna and the children in North Dakota. Correspondence with son Frank in a letter dated January 26, 1907, made references to his 2 "little" daughters from a latter marriage, one named Frances and the other named Caroline L., then in the 2nd grade so presumably born about 1899. I'd appreciate any correspondence from anyone who may see a connection to this family and or have any suggestions on how I can further my research.
