Does anyone have information on Edward Carrill m) Elizabeth Hoase 24 Aug 1636 in Uxbridge, Middlesex, Eng? I am looking for a connection to Nathaniel Carrill b) 1638 and shows in the Salem New England records in the mid 1650's. Any help or advice appreciated. Charlie

With the exception of one of those men, we believe they all have ancestors who went through Sampson County, NC sometime around 1790. We don't yet know how most are related. One was born in SC in 1808, and no connection to the Sampson County group has been established for him yet. Three of these men are now having their profile extended to 66 alleles. Those results should be complete in about 3 weeks. We hope that might give us a better chance to establish the common ancestor. You have a rather complete family tree for your CARROLL family, don't you? Is there not one living cousin with the Carroll surname? Jane: Do you know the names of the siblings of your g-grandfather William Carroll from County Tipperary? There was talk in my family of brothers of my g-grandfather Henry Carroll who settled in Indiana. Since I have no idea where my GGF Henry CArroll came from in Ireland, I am just fishing. Thanks for indulging me. Since the list has been a little more active than usual, I thought I would post my CARROLLs once again in hopes that someone new to the list may not have seen it. My g-grandfather was William CARROLL b. (1837-1846), Ireland (Co. I have not researched this but the 1900 Perry Co., IN Census gives his birth date as Sep 1890. Since William Carroll died Jan. 1889, either the birthdate for Patrick is incorrect or, William isn't his father but he definitely used CARROLL as his surname. There was one more child but I have not been able to find anything on him/her. I have not been able to find William and Anna CARROLL in the 1880 Census. They should be somewhere with at the very least, Maggie and Joseph, and, possibly James D. I think James may have died young but don't know for sure. Anna, Maggie, Joseph, Anna J. and Patrick are in the 1900 Perry Co., IN Census. Does anyone on this list have CARROLLs in Hardin and/or Grayson Co., KY? Any help or advice appreciated. Bettye, Yes, I have the article, "Demse Carrell: A Study". Thank you for the offer. I did not look it up last night when I wrote that quick summary. In one of the footnotes, it states, "1. There was a Demcy Carrol born in Duplin, North Carolina, in 1762. His Revolutionary War service entitled him to a pension by 1837 when he resided in Wilcox County, Alabama. No relationship to the Virginia family has been identified." I believe the Demcy Carrol, to whom the article refers thought be born in 1762 and in the Rev. War, was the son of Dempsey, Sr. and the brother of Stephen and my Alexander who married Lucy Ryal in 1783. Part of Duplin Co. became Sampson Co. in 1784. That is why I refer to the CARROLLS who lived there as Sampson County Carrolls. If there is a connection between these NC and AL families and the Demse/Dempsey of VA and KY, I have not yet found it. I'm still searching for Rebecca Carroll b. 1818 or 1820 in NC. Census show her parents were from VA. Rebecca was in Madison Co, MS in 1836 when she married Thomas Fair Temple. Does anyone know anything about her? Maybe her name was spelled different, I don't know. I have never been able to find out anything about her parents or any siblings. I'm appreciate any help. Thanks. Pam

Lura Do you have the VA genealogy magazine on "Demse Carrell a Study"? If not, let me know I will get you a copy. Some very interesting information on Demse and related surnames. Bettye Lura <[email protected]> wrote: Eric, This Dempsey, sometimes called Demse or James Demse or Demse James is thought to be the son of Daniel. This Dempsey had a son and at least two grandsons named Dempsey. His son Dempsey married Mary Hall and moved to KY. I think one grandson Dempsey was in a western VA county, and another grandson Dempsey was later in KY. I have never been able to establish any connection between he and the Demcy/Dempsey I found in Sampson in 1770.(and I think came there from Halifax County, NC.) There may be a connection.
