Their father was Nathaniel II was married to Priscilla Downing whose father, Mackum (Malcolm) was in the Battle of Dunbar, captured by the English, and sent to the Colonies to work at the Saugus Iron Works in Lynn, MA.According to my records, they had eight children: Mary, Hannah, Nathaniel, Samuel,Elizabeth, Johanna, John, and Daniel, all of whom were born in Salem, with the exception of Danel, who was born in Boxford, MA. Lemuel Carroll was Admin. of his estate. possibly a bro. Lemuel's parents were James and Mary (Polly) Carroll. Michael married a 2nd time to Nancy Prichett in 1816. I know of no children. She sued Moses for a portion of Michael's estate. I have childhood memories of Uncle Ben and Aunt Mattie Lou. My grandmother and grandfather would carry me to thier house in Powder Springs. I was fond of Uncle Ben's famous tea cakes. I still attend the Carroll/Hogan reunion every year in August at Sandhill where they are buried. As you probably know, Moses Carroll is buried there also. Author: iamflj Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.carroll/4663.3.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Shannon, Thank you for that information. I found the Barnaby Curry/Mary Gibson family detailed on some other family trees. There were at least 11 children, some (including Lidia) born in South Carolina from 1802 to 1809 and the rest in Amite, Mississippi from 1811 to 1822. There is a Barnaby Curry on the 1820 federal census for Wilkinson, Mississippi. Mary Gibson Curry is on the 1850 census in Bossier, Louisiana (age 69), living with son Dudly and next to son Jacob, two of Lidia's brothers. There's a record in "Mississippi Marriages 1776-1935" of Lidia Curry marrying Ransom DEES (reported as DUS) in 1829 when she was 20 in Amite, Mississippi. They appear to be on the 1830 census there too, as DEES, with no children. I didn't find a record of Lidia later marrying John Carrol, though that is still possible since the first Carroll children were born when Lidia was 29. On the 1860 census in Bossier LA Lidia Carroll is listed as head with her children, including Emily, and there is also another Carroll family in the house -- R.C. Carrell 28 and Mahalo Carrell 23 (actually Anderson Rutherford Carroll and wife Mahala) and their three children. Anderson Rutherford is the son of Anderson Carroll, who appears to be roughly the same age as John Carrol. Anderson Carroll Sr. was in Amite, Mississippi at the same time as the Currys (1820 census) and in East Faliciana, Louisiana in 1840 (1840 census). Anderson Carroll Sr's wife was Elizabeth DEES (this is getting interesting). Her mother Charlotte DEES 66, also born in South Carolina, is on the 1850 census for East Feliciana, LA along with her grandchildren Anderson Rutherford Carrol and his two siblings. She died at 76 in 1860, the census year when Anderson Rutherford and his family have moved in with Lidia and her children. Maybe John and Anderson were brothers, or cousins, for the families to! be associated in this way. Maybe in time this will be more meaningful in understanding the Carroll history and ultimately Emily and Benjamin Johnson. If not, it's still interesting! Thanks again for your reply and information. It mentioned that John Carroll and Lidia Curry were the parents of Walter Watson and Mary Carroll. I just researched from there until I found them in the 1860 census, where as I mentioned that had the surname spelled Carle. The only other information that I can give you is that in the 1870 census, Lidia is living with your gg grandmother and her family in Little River County, and in 1880 she is living with Walter Watson and his family still in Little River County. I have not been able to find any information on John Carroll before the 1860 census and can't seem to find anyone other than you that is researching this same line. I can tell you from the information in the letter that I have, that Lidia's parents are Barnaby Curry and Mary Gibson.
