    1. [CARROLL] Mailing lists on RootsWeb will be disabled in March 2020
    2. Aaron Hill
    3. I am not happy about this. I received the following message this morning. Please protest this short-sighted move, if you want. Perhaps if they hear from enough us, Ancestry will reverse course. Aaron J. Hill aaronjhill.wordpress.com From RootsWeb Administration <rwmailinglists@ancestry.com> Tue 1/7/2020 9:36 AM Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state. Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb. As an alternative to RootsWeb Mailing Lists, Ancestry message boards are a great option to network with others in the genealogy community. Message boards are available for free with an Ancestry registered account. Thank you for being part of the RootsWeb family and contributing to this community. Sincerely, The RootsWeb team

Author: awormsley Surnames: Carroll/Dorton Classification: biography Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.carroll/8133/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I am looking for my grandfather's siblings who were placed in the Tennessee Children's Home in 1926. My grandfather's name was Odie B. Carroll, and he was the son of Burl Carroll and Lizzie (Elizabeth) Dorton. My grandfather's adoption records indicate that he had a brother, Guy Brown (3 months old), and a sister, Liludora (4 years old). Because of the copy and handwriting quality, I am not certain of the spellings of either of these names. These two children were placed together but my grandfather was placed in a different orphanage. In further research, I discovered another brother, L. B. Dorton (changed his surname later in life) who was not placed in an orphanage but lived with his mother. If you have ANY information on these two individuals or their families, I would MORE THAN appreciate you sharing it. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. 3. Bettye and/or Lura, We haven't talked in years. I descend from Dempsey CARROLL 1713 Westmoreland Co, VA; d 1776 Loudoun Co, VA m Frances SANFORD. I have done atDNA tests at FTDNA, 23andMe and AncestryDNA, and am a user/volunteer at GEDmatch. I am very interested in any descendant of this CARROLL line in VA who has also tested with atDNA (you cannot always tell from their names and profiles). So far I match others on two chromosomes: one is an 8cM segment, and two others match on an 18.5cM segment. And I have an AncestryDNA match on CARROLL/SANFORD, but don't know the segment yet. Even if we don't match at one of the major companies, I can drill down to much smaller segments at GEDmatch to see if there is something there. Hope to hear from some Virginia CARROLLs. We intend to add some health-related genetic reports in the future once we have a comprehensive product offering.
