The "History of Preston County West Virginia" Volume I by Oren F Morton, 1914, page 331 names these Carrico siblings: Peter (arrived in Preston Co 1786) Francis (arrived in Preston Co 1786) Catherine (arrived in Preston Co 1786) a brother who settled in Culpeper Co VA (name?) a brother who settled [or remained] in Charles Co MD (James of Peter 1790 census Charles Co or James of John are possibilites) a brother who settled in Kentucky (?Alexander) another brother (?Joseph of Preston Co WV) Morton only refers to the brothers of Peter, Francis and Catherine Carrico. No mention is made of their sisters, if any. Preston Co was formed entirely from Monongalia Co in 1818. The personal property tax lists of Monongalia Co, the parent county, cover the years 1783-1850. Morton's 1786 date for the arrival of the Carrico siblings in Preston Co may be a little early as there are no Carricos listed in the personal property lists before 1797. These are as follows: 1797 Peter Carrico 2 white males 1 horse or mare or colt or mule 1798 no Cararico (list may be partly missing) 1799 Peter Carrico 1 white tithable John Carrico 1 white tithable 1 horse or mare or colt or mule 1800 John Carico 1 white tithable Peter Carico 1 white tithable 1801 Peter Carrico 1 white tithable 1 horse or mare or colt or mule John Carrico 1 white tithable 1802 Peter Carrico 2 white tithables 1 horse or mare or colt or mule 1803 Peter & John Carrico 2 white tythables 1 horse or mare or colt or mule 1804 Peter Carrico 1 white tythable John Carrico 1 white tythable 1805 Peter Carrico 1 white tithe John Carrico 1 white tithe 2 horses or mares or colts or mules 1806 Peter Carrico 1 white tythe 1 horse or mare or colt or mule John Carrico 1 white tythe 1 horse or mare or colt or mule 1807 John Carrico 1 white tythe 4 horses or mares or colts or mules Peter Carrico 1 white tythe 1808 no records for this year 1809 Peter Carico 1 white male above 16 2 horses or mares or colts or mules 1810 Peter Carrico 2 white tythes 2 horses or mares or colts or mules 1811 Peter Carrico 2 white tithables 1 horse or mare or colt or mule 1812 Peter Carrico 3? white tythes 1 horse or mare or colt or mule 1813 Peter Carrico 1 white tythe 2 horses or mares or colts or mules 1814 James Carico 1 white tythe 1 horse or mare or colt or mule Peter Carico 1 white tythe 2 horses or mares or colts or mules 1815 Peter Carrico 1 white male above 16 2 horses or asses or mules or mares or colts 2 head of cattle James Carrico 1 white male above 16 1 horse or ass or mule or mare or colt 2 head of cattle 1816 James Carrico 1 white male above 16 Catharine Carico 1 white male above 16 1 horse (presumably the widow of Peter Carrico) 1817 Joseph Carico 1 white male above 16 1 horse James Carico 1 white male above 16 2 horses 1818-1821 no Carrico listed (Preston Co formed 1818) 1822-1850 not checked NOTE: John and James were probably sons of Francis while Joseph was likely Peter's son Joseph. Morton states Peter had but one son, Joseph.
