While in England this summer a friend at the University of London recommended two works of fiction by Edward Rutherford entitled 'London" and 'Sarum'. It is fiction. However one of the families throughout both books is the Carpenter family. Rutherford had read widely in English historical documents and many of his Carpenters will appear familiar. BC
