    1. [CARPENTER] John R Carpenter--Recent Guest Speaker of SDGS
    2. Gray Church
    3. To all of you who haven't had the pleasure of meeting John R. Carpenter, the administrator of this List, in person-You are really missing something! In November, John was the guest speaker at the San Diego Genealogical Society's monthly meeting. The Society typically has two presentations each meeting-and John pulled a double-header! His first presentation was titled "Haplogroups, the Road Map to Mankind" and after the requisite break, he presented ""Famous and other DNA" (haplogroups of famous and infamous people). Listening and learning from John was an absolute delight! Despite the technical nature of his first presentation, his delivery was casual and folksy. His presentation triggered a lot of questions from the audience, and he did a great job explaining even the most technical aspects of DNA testing for genealogical purposes. His second presentation was interesting and fun. We learned the ancient ancestral origins of a variety of well-known people, such as George Washington, Marie Antoinette, and Attila the Hun! I really enjoyed meeting John and I wanted to take this time to remind us all how grateful we should be for the time and effort John donates to the Carpenter Family project! Thanks, John! Gray Carpenter Church Temecula, California Fifth great-granddaughter of William Carpenter (d abt 1802) of Brunswick, Virginia PS Despite the fact that we are not closely-related genetically, I must say that John looks incredibly like my cousin, Mark Carpenter (including the beard!). He sure looks a lot like the Carpenter men I have known!
