In response to your question stated below, Charles Pomeroy Carpenter born in NY 1838, Helen J. born in NY 1841, Henry S. born in NY 1844, and Adalaide Carpenter born in NY 1846. Their father listed as William Carpenter born between 1809 and 1811 in Rhode Island. They lived in Norway, Herkimer County, NY. There was another William Carpenter according to the 1840 Census who was between the ages of 40 and 50 living in Russia, Herkimer County, NY. He had six children as of this census. I am guessing that the William of Norway and the William of Russia were probably related, but I am not certain. According to my research, there was a William Carpenter listed in the Rhode Island Census of 1810, with 11 members in the household, including a male under the age of 10. But there were many Carpenters in that Rhode Island Census with a male child under the age of 10, who could have been the father of William of Norway. This is where I hit a brick wall Date: Sat, 12 Apr 2008 23:02:07 -0500 From: "Brad & Bonnie Kershaw" <bkershaw@hughes.net> Subject: Re: [CARPENTER] Charles Pomeroy Carpenter To: <carpenter@rootsweb.com> Message-ID: <001f01c89d1b$29cfa110$0600a8c0@bbktexas> Content-Type: text/plain; charset="us-ascii" I'm not sure if this Charles Pomeroy Carpenter is related to my Carpenters or not. Do you have any of the other children's names from this census? I doubt if it is, as my great-grandfather, Alfred Madison Carpenter, born in Madison County, NY, in 1830, was the last of 11 children. I don't know how many of them would have been left at home by 1850. I have some info that a William was his father, but he would have been about 55 in 1850. I'm at a brick wall with my research, so I was hopeful when I first read your post. I'd be glad to share what info I have if it turns out that there is any tie here.
