    1. [CARPENTER] Charles Pomeroy Carpenter
    2. Friend in need of help -RSVP to me I am trying trace my lineage and have gone back to the US Federal Census of 1870 taken in N. Bloomfield, Ohio. In this census is listed my great, great grandfather Charles Pomeroy Carpenter born in New York. This much I know is certain. From here everything I have done is based upon my best research and estimation. I found a William Carpenter living in Norway, Herkimer County, New York on the US 1850 Census. This particular William was approximately 41 years of age at the time of this census. And, his wife was named Ann Eliza. They listed six children by the time of the 1860 Census. One child listed was Charles P. Carpenter, who I believe might be Charles Pomeroy Carpenter of N Bloomfield, Ohio. The age of Charles P of New York of the 1850 Census ties with what Charles P Carpenter's age would have been by the 1870 Census taken in N Bloomfield, Ohio. According to the New York 1850 Census, William Carpenter of Norway, Herkimer, New York was born in Rhode Island. I was wondering if this same William Carpenter of Norway, NY is tied into your family lineage? I have been searching for information and came upon your web site. Any information that you could provide would be appreciated. **************It's Tax Time! Get tips, forms and advice on AOL Money & Finance. (http://money.aol.com/tax?NCID=aolcmp00300000002850)

    3. I'm not sure if this Charles Pomeroy Carpenter is related to my Carpenters or not. Do you have any of the other children's names from this census? I doubt if it is, as my great-grandfather, Alfred Madison Carpenter, born in Madison County, NY, in 1830, was the last of 11 children. I don't know how many of them would have been left at home by 1850. I have some info that a William was his father, but he would have been about 55 in 1850. I'm at a brick wall with my research, so I was hopeful when I first read your post. I'd be glad to share what info I have if it turns out that there is any tie here. 3. John L., Sorry for the delay. Family issues. The William Carpenter b. abt 1809 MAY be the son of the following William Carpenter. I have had no update on this line since 2000. See below. Y-DNA could help resolve the question if the descendants matched each other by using DNA. They could also determine which DNA group they belong in the Carpenter Cousins Y-DNA Project. I believe that Gene Zubrinsky looked at the Herkimer county Carpenters at one time in mid August 2004. I don't remember how detailed that info was. I hope this helps. John R. "Almost all of the Carpenters in DuPage are buried in Oak Hill or Oak Crest Cemeteries-(they are next to each other)." Per Debbie Weber "fdeweber" <fdeweber@email.msn.com> SEE: Ahimaaz BLANCHARD for the complete E-Mail. MORE: (8 May 2000) Henry was born in Washington County, Sandy Hill, NY on February 22, 1810. His parents were William Carpenter and Lois Austin Carpenter. They had six children. Lois Carpenter died in 1814. She was a native of Saratoga County, NY. Henry and his father (possibly other siblings) went to Herkimer County abt. 1814/15 to live with another of Henry's brothers. William Carpenter, Henry's father died in Herkimer County in 1822. Henry apprenticed to the harness-maker's trade, at which he worked for several years. Henry married Martha Blanchard a native of Orleans County in 1832. They moved to Downer's Grove, DuPage County, Illinois permanently in 1845 and remained there until his death in June 7, 1891. They had three children: Walter, killed in an explosion in Chicago: William, died at 5 yrs.: Martha J. born 1845. (Martha married Eugene Farrar.) This information was taken from the 1874 Atlas and History of DuPage County, IL: Henry was the son of William who was the son of William ( the author may have been mistaken about William being the son of William), who descended from the three Carpenters (father, son and grandson) who during the 17th century, settled in Mass. After the death of his mother he went to Central NY to live with a brother. This information was taken from Henry's diary: 1830- Worked in Hamilton this is near Burlington Bay at the head of Lake Ontario probably in Orleans County, NY) went over to Orleans County to Yates, had a brother there, he sent me to the village of Lyndon. ( The 1830 census for Yates lists only one Carpenter. His name was William.) Spring 1835- Elected Justice of the Peace for the town of Yates (Orleans County). (Henry served until 1840). 1850: Downers Grove, Illinois: Eldest sister came to live here with her husband and children. (Henry's sister was named Mary Carpenter. According to the 1850 DuPage County Census she would have been born in 1799/1800 in New York) Husband's name was Paul Perry. Mary and Paul had the following children: Henry, John, Merritt, William. I would appreciate any information or connections that you may have on this Carpenter Family. I e-mailed John Carpenter last month and he sent me a file on some Carpenter's in Illinois, but so far I have not been able to match my Henry and William to this file. Thank you very much for your help. Debbie Weber fdeweber@msn.com Henry married (MRIN:21587) Martha Blanchard-57755, daughter of Ahimaaz Blanchard-57754 and Mary Tolford-57758 (MRIN:21538), on 14 Oct 1832 in , Orleans, NY. Martha was born about 1814 in of, Whitehall, , NY. SHE WAS THE AUNT OF CHARLES CARPENTER # 4320 in the Carpenter Memorial. Martha was the sister of Charles's father Walter Blanchard. Henry and Martha had the following children: 9 M i. Walter Carpenter-57759 was born on 5 Nov 1833 in Yates, Orleans, NY. He died on 9 Nov 1856 in Chicago, , IL. Killed in an explosion in Chicago, IL. Died November 9, 1856 in Cook County, Illinois-killed in a train accident when a boiler exploded. Educated in New York. 10 M ii. William Carpenter-57760 was born in 1842 in Downer's Grove, Dupage, IL. He died on 20 May 1848 in Downer's Grove, Dupage, IL. Died young. 11 F iii. Martha J. Carpenter-57761 was born on 25 Sep 1845 in Downer's Grove, Dupage, IL. She died on 2 Feb 1923 in Downer's Grove, Dupage, IL. Martha married (MRIN:21588) Eugene Farrar-58455 on 10 Dec 1864 in Downers Grove, Du Page, IL. Eugene was born about 1845 in of, Dupage, IL. 12 M iv. William S. Carpenter-64654 was born in 1854 in Warrensville, Dupage, IL. He died about 1921 in , , CA. WILLIAM S. CARPENTER - ADOPTED BY HENRY SOMETIME BETWEEN 1860 AND 1870. William was born in Warrensville, DuPage County in 1854. Owned and operated a Drug and Stationery Store in Downers Grove. Married Miss Martha Hobart. William died in California abt. 1921. Note: I feel that there had to have been a blood relationship between William's natural parents and Henry. After the death of Henry's son Walter, Henry went into a deep depression and sold most of his business interests. I do not feel that he would have adopted a son at this time unless the child was related to him. ----- Original Message ----- From: Johnlsaywhat@aol.com To: CARPENTER@rootsweb.com Sent: Saturday, April 12, 2008 8:23 PM Subject: Charles Pomeroy Carpenter Friend in need of help -RSVP to me I am trying trace my lineage and have gone back to the US Federal Census of 1870 taken in N.
