    2. The Carpenters
    3. Sheila, I think there are several (at least) of us who are "lost in Vermont" regarding our Carpenters. Maybe we can form a club. My GGGgrandfather, John CARPENTER, b. 1797 in VT, as I call him, was indeed born in 1797. If the same source that gave me that date is right about the rest, then John was born somewhere in Vermont, and is probably of French/French Canadian ancestry. I told this source (my father) that this was not good enough. I want to tie into one of these great, deeply researched Carpenter family trees that go back to 751 a.d. He tells me that this would be nice, but he's pretty sure we don't tie into one of those trees; maybe Charpentier, or Carpentier, or. . . . He's no fun. So now I am starting to look at Vermont. Do you have any Vermont urls that might help? By the way, John ended up marrying an Irish girl (I'm starting to look for her, too) and spent most of his adult life in DeRuyter or Sheds, Madison Co., NY. George --- George R.
