Neil, Where is Floyd County, Indiana? My Ggrandfather, Osmer Harold CARPENTER had a brother, Francis Adelbert CARPENTER, who lived in Decatur, MI. For some reason I feel like he had several daughters. I am just beginning to look for info on this. You might want to check this, if you can figure out how, esp. if Floyd Co. is near SW Michigan. Osmer was born in 1849 (but I don't know yet when Frank was born), so this seems like the right time line for an 1869 birth. Maybe. Just something to consider as you go along.
