Penny and George: I have a John Carpenter who was born in 1822 somewhere in NY according to Census records. He had many children who were born in NY, Wisc and Minn. The last child born in MN (probably Fairbault County) in Mar 1869 was Warren A. Carpenter. Could this line link into the line being discussed? David H. >>> "The Carpenters" <carpgl@ismi.net> 05/02/99 07:55PM >>> Penny, This could tie into my family. My GGGgrandfather is John CARPENTER, born in 1797 in Vermont. The date is pretty firm, as he died and was buried in Sheds or DeRuyter, NY, and is on a cemetery list there; the VT is family tradition. Also, tradition has it that John had French in his background. I think that my John may be the son of Caleb CARPENTER and Rhoda DYER. If their John was born first, and the second one was 1799, that fits about perfectly the fairly natural 2-year time between children. At two years apart, John would have been fourteen when the last sibling was born. It wouldn't have taken much to make him old enough to go out on his own when (or even before) Caleb moved to Ohio. My John ended up married to an Irish girl, moved from VT to DeRuyter, NY, and had a family there. His son, James, ended up in Plainview, Wabasha Co., MN. James' son, Osmer Harold CARPENTER, and some of his brothers and, for a short time, James himself, homesteaded in the Arlington and DeSmet areas of Kingsbury Co., SD. Thus, our route would be (RI); VT; NY; MN; SD. Please send me whatever other information you might think will fill in the blanks. I will be glad to share my material with you, too. Do you have any dates such as when the second marriage occurred, or the move to Ohio? This could be paydirt for me, and then we can push it back together, maybe-cousin. Besides, I have had the same disappointment in getting a tie-in to the Big Two families, so maybe we can begin the Big Three. George --- George R.
