    3. Dear John L., This sounds like the Nicholas Carpenter and his brother who were "pressed" or involuntarily joined the British Navy in 1812. The brother died and he later was discharged sometime after the War of 1812. That Nicholas was born about Jun 1793 in VT or abt 1798 in York county, ME I believe. John R.
