The Wiliam in the document in question was I suspect a foreign wine merchant. A warehouse for such an individual would have been a cellar of an existing structure. Crawford in A HISTORY OF THE VINTNERS' COMPANY tells us, "In 1299 the Gascons complained to Edward I because they could not find sufficient houses or cellars to hire, presumably due to obstruction on behalf of their native rivals quite as much as to the genuine lack of accommodation." (p. 18) In those times I am unaware of even the existance of a specialized structure such as a warehouse. i suspect home, warehouse and sometimes barn were often the same. BC
