Pat, I have an old "Carpenter Family Courier" published by Annette Womack in 1985 in which Wendell Carpenter has listed the 1850 Census of TN and made notes on what he knew or believed to be true about each one. On Ensley Carpenter, he says (probably related to Yelberton Carpenter, see CAP.) CAP is "Carpenters A Plenty" a book written mostly about the descendants of Christian Carpenter/Zimmerman. They came from NC into Kentucky and then TN. Not much, I realize, but it's a place to check.
