One route came down the Ohio River and into the northern areas, another came across WV and into the NE sector, the third came UP from the Cumberland Gap and into Southern Ky. So, generally, the ancestry tended to be determined by the migration route. Folks coming from the New England States would have chosen the Ohio River, those coming from central and western VA might have decided to come over the mountains, and those from southern VA, the Carolinas, Tennessee would have come through the Gap. So it's better to concentrate on those areas when backtracing ancesters. Sue
