    3. Dear Bruce, At the end of this message is the "Dear Researcher" type of letter I have sent out for years (with small variations). "If I may have your CARPENTER FAMILY data, I will send you what I have (using GEDCOM) on my main CARPENTER data file in exchange." This general statement has been in all my "Dear Researcher" letters. As all who have sent me Carpenter data knows, I will share what I have. The Carpenter CD Project is not ever going to make money, it is a hobby and for the benefit of Carpenter Researchers. Even though you have never sent your Carpenter line, you have helped others with bits and pieces of research data. That is why I have sent you the data you have asked for over the last few years. It is unfortunate that your bias does not allow you to see the good intent and the usefulness in the Carpenter CD Project. By compiling this data collection, I am helping other researchers now. I do dozens of lookups each week. And I hope to help more in the future. I wish you the best of luck on your own work. Sincerely, John R. Carpenter La Mesa, CA USA Bruce E. For more than twenty years, I have worked on my own line and related CARPENTER lines. I have built a good size computer data base on the early CARPENTER Family in France, England and in America. This main data base has over 48,000 CARPENTER & related names with over 17,000 families. I also have about 67 other CARPENTER related data files. As you probably know most CARPENTERS can trace their lineage into England. But how many know that the research has taken that CARPENTER line into France to a gentleman called "William 'the carpenter' De Melun" who was a knight who had fought at Antioch in Syria during the First Crusade in 1098 AD? Many CARPENTER researchers have focused on their pacticular line, where as I am gathering the roots and descendants of the CARPENTER FAMILY. I have included corrections to their works and new data as I get them. I plan to produce a computer CD about the end of the year 2000 AD with the results of my gathering and compiling of records. My data has the major and minor CARPENTER branches in and from England dating from the grandfather of William 'the carpenter' De Melun about 920 AD. It includes source and other interesting notes. AND I NEED YOUR HELP! If I may have your CARPENTER FAMILY data, I will send you what I have (using GEDCOM) on my main CARPENTER data file in exchange. GEDCOM or Genealogical Data Communications is a standard way to transport computer data from one computer program to another. If you do not have your data on computer, let me know and we will work something out. I look forward to hearing from you. Please pass my name around to any other interested researcher on CARPENTERS. I will answer all inquiries. John R. Carpenter 5850 Yorkshire Ave. La Mesa, CA 91942-2821 U.S.A. (619) 466-5735 Voice (619) 466-591O Fax E-Mail: jrcrin001@home.com
