In the Calendar of Patent Rolls for 1272 to1281 there is an important list of "licenses to export wool". The individuals onthe list were all major players in the English economy, and also crown revenue, of the day. One exporter, and a major importer as I mentioned previously, liscensed May 12 1273, was "John le Carpenter, merchant." It seems interesting to me that this individual was already a merchant. One can immediately assume tat anyone on this list was an individual of major means and a member of a family group engaged in similar activities. Yours, Bruce E. Carpenter
