After reading further,I see that Benjamin and wife Margaret Decker were married April 9th 1787, so if we look to see a Benjamin who married margaret Decker we can find his father,he had a son Benjamin also who is part of this pension app. It also has a letter from the Reformed Dutch Church of Orange Co New York, this was 1839 when the letter was written by Pastor Cornelious C Etting----- Original Message ----- From: <Mzzcortezz@aol.com> To: <CARPENTER-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Friday, December 07, 2007 12:58 PM Subject: [CARPENTER] Rev. Hi Folks,I found Benjamins Pension application which was filed by his wife Margaret, This is Orange County, But the Major and his Col were different names??He was under Capt Thompson, and regiment ran by William Allison , and a Col Benjamin Tusten and a Maj John Decker, It tells of His escape from a capture where he escaped from the back of the fort and made his was through a deep ravine ,trying to get back to Montgomery. all I can say is WOW, There are 9 pages most of tells about his enlistment, and many different battles.Very cool History, I would love to get it transcribed and read it ,It is hard to read as is.But you can get quite a bit out of it . Does anyone know, what line of Carpenters this is, Is It the Rehoboth Carpenters??. Any Ideas? The last I heard the Carpenter Museum was storing Carpenter data and not wanting any more. There was some talk about sending it to the SAR Library in Louisville KY which does have an extensive amount of Carpenter genealogy material and is very accommodating to researchers. This would be a reasonable place to send that Bible. I hope that we aren't bidding against each other. -----Original Message----- From: carpenter-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:carpenter-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of John Carpenter Sent: Friday, December 07, 2007 6:59 AM To: carpenter@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [CARPENTER] Carpenter bible I put in a bid for the Bible on eBay, and was immediately outbid. This is good information. Thanks. One thing to watch for in the U.S. records, is that Loyalists were disowned, and even their departures for Canada were not recorded. The division of families was as traumatic and vicious as it was in the Civil War, 90 years later. I believe my Carpenter roots went from Rehoboth to Hempstead, LI, to NJ, and thence to Canada. Still trying to string together all the beads, but I have both ends of the string. I have a hunch the records might be somewhere in the Canadian Maritimes - the Brits took what records they had when they evacuated New York City. From New Brunswick and Nova Scotia, many of the Loyalists petitioned for more tillable land in Upper Canada, now Ontario, and settled south of Toronto (including my immediate Carpenter ancestors). My point is, that some of pre-Revolution family lines that seem to "daughter out" or just disappear, may be found again in Canada and worked backward from there. Just a suggestion - Best regards, John Edward Carpenter, Reading Massachusetts (Grandson of John Brock Carpenter of Woodhouse Township, Norfolk County, ON - Just by the name, it's clear they were UEL. Someday I have to visit!) -----Original Message----- From: carpenter-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:carpenter-bounces@rootsweb.com]On Behalf Of John R.
