Therefore, if your cousin *had* joined, we would be unable to talk about it without first asking his express permission. However, since he has not joined, I guess it's ok to say so. Moreover, no one claiming descent from William Rodman Carpenter has joined, and so your branch is unrepresented in the project. Feel free to get in touch and urge your cousin to participate. 2. Bob Carpenter
    3. Hello Carpenters & Zimmermans, Here it is 2008 and I'm 9 days into my new years resolutions. Are you still searching from on top of a brick wall? Balancing is really tough and you're about ready to fall! Here it is two thousand and eight, Could DNA testing be your fate? Is your last name spelled CARPENTER? Zimmerman or even Charpentier Look no more, if your ancestor came to the U.S. in 1732 Y-DNA test results could be just right for you. When you have your Y-DNA tested, then you're leading the pack, You could prove your ancestry to 1572 or even farther back. What will it cost for DNA testing, you say, A lot less than a trip to Boston or even LA. Today, is the first day of the rest of your genealogical life to research, Without DNA, next year, will you still be uncertain and sitting on your perch? O.K., Now you are just about ready to cry, Go log onto FTDNA.COM and say Hi. Here is how you do it! Enter www.ftdna.com Select Surname Projects or just Projects, for Carpenter, Select C345 The Select Carpenter Cousins, then select members.cox.net/johncarpenter/index.htm Now you are looking at the CARPENTER COUSINS Y-DNA PROJECT, read, look around and digest. When you are tested you are given a number, no one else will know unless YOU tell them. NOW! look at the groups, do you see your area? You could fit into one of these groups and extend your family history back a few generations and maybe even help someone else do the same. All of this for a night out on the town. You can't beat it! Really interested? Go back to members.cox.net/johncarpenter/index.htm, then go to the bottom of the page and fill out the request for DNA testing. RECOMMEND: Y-DNA25 Happy New Year, and best of all Happy Ancestor Hunting! Bob Carpenter

    1. [CARPENTER] SOME CARPENTER FINDINGS
    2. Rod Carpenter
    3. Couple notes: 1. Found a discrepancy in info I had on a Roseanna CARPENTER STEVENS whom I show was born in Magoffin Co, KY. Info I received from Patricia Hopkins Baldwin (not sure where she got it) was that Roseanna was born 6 JAN 1848 and died in Magoffin Co, KY. I just came across the death certificate and it shows she was born 2 Feb 1847 in Gypsy, Magoffin Co, KY and died 3 June 1931 in Willard, Huron Co, OH and that she was buried in Royalton, KY not Fredville (Maybe Fredville and Royalton are close together). Informants on death certificate was a Mrs Stevens and Mrs Patrick. Flora STEPHENS PATRICK died in Willard, OH and was a daughter so I would think the info on this death cert would be accurate (maybe not) but bottom line is she died in Ohio not KY so wanted to send that to anyone researching this family. 2. Next, I did not have this in my Carpenter database. I found a Malinda CARPENTER CHAPMAN death certificate that says she is a daughter of Steve CARPENTER and _____ MCDANIEL. I do have a Lindy CARPENTER CHAPMAN dau of Stephen (Blue eyed Stephen) CARPENTER and Polly KASH who is shown married to an Adam CHAPMAN with a note per Stephen's will which I don't have so can't check that. The Malinda that I found (which I "assume" is the same person, was married to a Lafayette CHAPMAN per her death cert and also listed in the 1920 Butler Co, OH census as Lafayette. Malinda's death was 9 Apr 1925 in Middletown, Butler Co, OH and buried 14 Apr 1925 in Woodside Cem, Middletown, Butler Co, OH. The 1920 census calculates her birth as aprox 1868 which would make her possibly a child of Polly KASH. However, her death certificate has DOB left blank but her age at death as 57 yrs 7 months 7 days which calculates out as 2 Sept 1865. Informant was Harlan CHAPMAN whoever he is? So, I have a Lindy CARPENTER CHAPMAN md to Adam CHAPMAN and also a Malinda CARPENTER CHAPMAN md to a Lafayette CHAPMAN in my database. Can anyone shed light on this. Thanks, Rod..........Patty if you are out there hi I am still alive and well. Rod Carpenter Akers Packaging Service, Inc. 2. Greetings, Thanks for the reply. the connection of my Carpenter line thru Zimmerman in PA is remote I feel, however, I am stopped at Christopher Carpenter, born on 4 Oct 1798 in NY, married to Henrietta Greenman oin 1821 and died at Summerville, St. Lawence Co. NY on 4 Nov 1847. I have put to gether a "guess" genealogy, but can't prove it. I'll just keep looking as so many of our Carpenter family genealogists are doing. 3. Have you checked "Genealogical and Historical record of the Carpenter family: with a brief genealogy of some of the descendants of William Carpenter of Weymouth and Rehoboth, Mass., William Carpenter of Providence, R.I., SAMUEL CARPENTER OF PENN,. and Ephraim, Timothy and Josias Carpenter of Long Island: etc" ? Capitals are mine. Also have you done a Persi search (also in Heritage Quest) using "Carpenter and Pennsylvania" as your search terms. I found 9 interesting looking magazine articles. Unfortunately I believe there is a charge for them, and they might not be "yours". At my local library today, while searching for my Pennsylvania Grahams I kept an eye out for Pennsylvania Carpenters. Found a book titled "Colonial & Revolutionary Families of Pennsylvania" vol. 1 that had a pretty good family listing for Samuel Carpenter on pages 469 to 479, under Carpenter & Preston families. "Notes and Queries" is proving to be a disappointment after an promising beginning, but I'm still plugging through it looking for Carpenter and Graham. Is there a particular Carpenter for which I should be watching? Jessie Deith

My New Year's resolution is to write in this blog on a more frequent basis. My aim is for daily entries. That of course means I may stray from genealogy more than I have in the past to throw in life with my grandchildren and at work. If it gets too boring, PLEASE tell me. I had a massive project to get done at work last week, so only took off Christmas Day itself. When I finished my project on Thursday my son Michael and I drove the 200 miles to the farm to see my mother. Michael wanted to go home the next day, but I stayed until Sunday to spend more time with Mom, then took the train home. While there I was working on DAR applications for my nieces who are interested in joining. They should be simple with mine approved, but are not. National in approving mine changed a number of my entries. Only problem is: I can prove mine are right and theirs are wrong. Not wanting to perpetuate the error, I am trying to figure out how to correct it. I got most of the corrections done and proven, so hopefully this weekend will be able to complete the applications. I also have various other applications to complete for DAR chapters, but got behind when my hard drive died. At least all my information was retrieved and moved to the new hard drive! As part of my application process I started what I am currently calling a "Documentary and Photographic History of the Direct Descendants of Samuel Carpenter of Philadelphia through [name of individual for whom I am doing the book] [DPHDDSC]. These books were planned as simple DAR applicatons for my siblings and their children. However I have never learned to leave well enough alone, so every final proofread results in Betty and I deciding more stuff is needed. These DPHDDSC loose-leaf notebooks started as Christmas presents for my siblings and nieces and nephews. They still retain that category. As they are individually made for each recipient, they are also very expensive to produce. I would be happy to do them for other family members whatever the relationship but must be reimbursed for a fraction of my cost. I wish I were independently wealthy and didn't have to do this, but no such luck. If anyone is interested in purchasing an individualized copy for $50, or has photos or documents to add, please contact me at BarbaradeMare@yahoo.com I spent last night reading Quaker minutes from Hinshaw's Encyclopedia finding many more interesting items to add to the DPHDDSC (I think we need a contest for a better anacronym). After getting through most of those I started on the Journal of the Genealogical Society of New Jersey. The latter had a very interesting article on our Pile ancestors which will require closer scrutiny. I was using CDs for these searches, which are not my favorites, but get me in the right direction. Take for example the Quaker CD. The minutes of the Quakers were kept comtemporaneously, although some were copied over into books. Hinshaw came along about a century ago and abstracted these minutes. I have previously given my opinion of abstracts--things get lost in the interpretation. Thereafter the set of Hinshaw books was republished by Genealogical Publishing Co. Most recently the GPC book has been converted to a searchable CD. The chances for errors to slip into this chain of ownership and rewriting is enormous. The CDs do give a good starting place to find original records, however. Every volume states the location of the originals so that the researcher can skip back to the beginning to verify the information on the CD. Next time I have a free day I will have to do this. I would really love to obtain photos of the 17th and 18th century Carpenter ancestors. I start each section with a photograph, and have such things back to Thomas the revolutionary ancestor, who I am missing. I am also missing Preston Carpenter and Samuel Carpenter II. The other items am particularly seeking are old letters with some family history, deeds, college or other academic information, the patents of James Carpenter, etc. Anything which would tell the story of the Carpenters through documents and pictures. I must bring this project to an end, and start another if this one is successful. I have zillions of ideas in my head for different ways to tell particular parts of the family history. I intend to experiment with several and see which one or ones are most popular. If you can help, please contact me. Thanks, Barbara Barbara L. de Mare, Esq.
