Dear John:? (Smile)? I have been researching my Theda Carpenter for about 10 years now.? I've been told that her father was a Joseph and that her mothers name was Harriett, but have not been able to confirm that.?? Theda was born at De Ruyter, NY in 1804, and married Milton Maxson Main ca 1823.? They immigrated to Chenango county then to Portville NY, and settled at Main Settlement east of Portville.? If your Joseph is a possibilty I would love to compare notes and share information.??? Thanks much???? John and Meralyn, Do either of you have any mention of a RoxeyAnn Carpenter (b Oct. 1812; married Asahel Luther) or an Alfred Madison Carpenter (b. Mar 24, 1830 in Madison County, NY; d. Jan 14, 1915, KS) in your lines? They are the oldest and youngest of a family of 11 children. Alfred Madison Carpenter is my g-grandfather and my brick wall. I'm looking for names of the other 9 siblings and parents. If you have any possibilities, please help me scale my wall! Thanks, Bonnie -----Original Message----- From: carpenter-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:carpenter-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of genwrite@aol.com Sent: Saturday, February 23, 2008 2:42 PM To: thecarponline2@msn.com; carpenter@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [CARPENTER] FW: [PAYNE] Mensa Geneology Colloquium Sept 2008 Dear John:? If you type in Harvey Carpenter at Google-Books or Amazon.com you will notice that a Harvey Carpenter in the late 1800 wrote a series of small poetry books. Does anyone have any idea who Harvey was? His books seem self-published. He was an MA Carpenter. Bruce Clinton, WA

You might possibly be looking for me ? I am not a "Dr." however. I worked on marriage & death abstracts from the Huntington, Suffolk County, newspaper the "Long-Islander." The printed volume published by Heritage Books [now out of print, but they are sitting on the rights to my data & will not let me put the info on line] is "Deaths Reported by the 'Long Islander': 1878-1890." The on-line version available in the "Long Island Source Records" section of the great site: http://longislandgenealogy.com covers "Deaths Reported by the 'Long Islander': 1891-1900" and "Marriages Reported by the 'Long Islander': 1878-1900." The paper was published in Huntington & generally covers the Towns of Huntington, Smithtown, & Oyster Bay ... with scattered info from North Hempstead, Jamaica, Hempstead, Brookhaven, Riverhead, Babylon & Islip Towns + a good amount on Huntington, Oyster Bay, & Smithtown people who were married or died in Brooklyn or New York City + scattered info from all across the country on marriages or deaths of Huntington, Oyster Bay, & Smithtown people. You might find info on people from anywhere on Long Island, but west of Glen Cove the reporting isn't as extensive; ditto for the entire South Shore from the Rockaways on out; ditto for points east of Port Jefferson ... but if you are doing the North Shore from Glen Cove to Port Jefferson & south to the mid-point of the Island, chances are the death or marriage will be reported. I'll do look ups in my printed book for 1878-1890 BUT REALLY ONLY FOR PEOPLE WITH DIRECT HUNTINGTON, SMITHTOWN, OR OYSTER BAY TOWN CONNECTIONS ... otherwise it's really a waste of your time to ask, since the coverage was so hit & miss outside those 3 Towns. The "South Side Signal" covers the Babylon & Islip area much better; ditto on the Jamaica, Flushing, & Hempstead papers for Queens County info; and ditto for any East End papers for the East End Towns.
