This is a fantastic resource. Make the most of it while it is free (until April 30th). I found tons of stuff, some in my lines in both Union and Confederate soldier lists, and lots of interesting letters, memoirs, etc. in the other section of the website. Bob, I think all of the books you sent to me involve the British Carpenter family which settled first in Massachusetts. They descend from a William Carpenter. Many of their descendants ended up in New York. I have seen reference to those books in the past. By the way I still have not had the opportunity to look at the Steffisburg parish book. Apparently it has not yet arrived. I am going to call tomorrow to check on its status. MY COUSIN LEE SENT THIS AND I THOUGHT OTHERS MIGHT WANT TO READ IT TOO: ARBELLA PERKINS-EWING WAS 114 YRS OLD. Mrs. Ewing passed away recently in Dallas, Texas. I don't think any of us will find her in our family tree but I chose to circulate this anyway. If you look at the 1900 Census of Freestone County, Texas, on the first line you will find ARBELLA PERKINS listed as a six-year old female, born in March 1894. That would make her 114 years old. Good Morning Donna! How about this?!! My uncle, Grover Cleveland Carpenter was killed in a grain elevator accident on November 13, 1944 near Bald Bluff in western Illinois. He is buried in Alexis Cemetery next to his parents, Charles Aaron and Sarah Jane Houghton Carpenter. Grover and his wife, Esther (Brown) lost two children at birth then raised two of his nephews after Grover's sister Mary died. Small world! FROM MY NEW FOUND COUSIN JANETT - DESCENDANT OF JAMES WARREN & SARAH (Harlen) CARPENTER ----- Original Message ----- Sent: Saturday, March 22, 2008 2:10 PM Subject: Grover`s moument Well I just got back from Concord Cemetery [Clay Co AL]. My Grandfather Grover C. Carpenter Sr. now has a marker. It took 85yrs , but I am so thankful he now has one and I am certain it is in the right place where my mama told me he was burried. I took pictures I will send you a copy soon .. So please put it on your list he no longer is in an unmarked grave... Thats what sparked me to get this monument. When I read Grover C. Carpenter Sr. was burried in an unmarked grave at Concord. I said thats my grandfather and I A`int having it... Janett. _________________________ Janett's line: 1.
