I am desperately seeking info on the Carpenter's who settled in the Duanesburg, NY area. In particular would be David b. about 1825, Caleb b. about 1810, Wm H. b. about 1826, Abram b. about 1786. Lots of old testament names in these households. The family also spent time in the Berne, NY area. My GGG grandfather George Carpenter was brother to David who both married Babcock girls (sisters?). Any info no matter how small would be GREATLY appreciated.
If anyone has Carpenter ancestors from Bennington County, Vermont please let me know. I am looking for the siblings and parents of Henry Carpenter, born 2/5/1825. Thanks, Sheila

I hope this is valuable to some of you folks. I have appreciated your response. Phoebe
Dear Beverly, You requested information about James and Henry Smith. I have a Henry Smith whose daughter married Moses Carpenter as his second wife in Goshen, NY. This Henry does not seem to have a brother named James. Most of my Smith information comes from The American Genealogist, Vol. 25, page 22 which starts a long list of the descendants of William Smith of Jamaica. I have only a few pages. There is a James Smith, son of Wait Smith who is brother of Caleb Smith, the father of my Henry, making this James and Henry Smith first cousins.. Wait Smith died between 1750 and 1753. No dates or other information about James who is mentioned in the will of his father Wait Smith. Caleb and Wait Smith are sons of Wait Smith and Phebe Ashman. William Smith is father of Wait. Perhaps you can get hold of TAG and look at volume 25 for other Jamse Smiths. Margaret Cass cassm@voicenet.com
That book is called THE ANCESTRY AND DESCENDANTS OF COL. SOLOMAN CARPENTER OF GOSHEN, NEW YOU Researched and compiled and issued by the CARPENTER FAMILY ASSN. printed in 1974. Some of the original correspondence by the person who put this together is on file in the Locked History Room of the Goshen Public Library. I would love to have pgs 59 - 94. I have the other pages. The front pages of the two chapters I have are headed: "Chapter 3 The Jamaica L.I. Carpenters John Carpenter Sr." "Chapter 4 Solomon Carpenter of Goshen, NY Col. I sure would like to know what source these chapters come from--and what the other chapters may cover. If you know the title, author or publisher, I'd sure be grateful if you would please advise. I wish to learn more about the identity of Elizabeth Albertson who married Nehemiah Carpenter, Nov 15, 1750 on Long Island NY. She is said to have been the daughter of "the widow Mary Albertson." Who was her father? What was her mother's maiden name? Thanks for any help. Robin C.

I have one of the items from the Michigan vital statistics site that I recognized as belonging to someone on the list. We corresponded about it, but I can't find my saved messages on it, so I will just share it here and hope the right person finds it: CARPENTER, ALANSON Date of death: 29-Nov-1870 Ledger Page: 58 Record Number: 686 Place of death: Almo {{most likely, "Alamo," misspelled--GC}} County of Death: Kalamazoo Sex: Male Race: White Marital Status: Married Age: 64 years Cause of Death: Accidental Injuries Birthplace: Ny Occupation: Farmer Father's Name: Last name not recorded, First name not recorded Father's Residence: Not Recorded Mother's Name: Last name not recorded, First name not recorded Mother's Residence: Not Recorded Date of record: 29-Apr-1871 George --- George R. Phoebe, This is a fun site. Most of my Carpenter ancestors who died by such early dates died elsewhere, but I did find good info on my Jacobsons of the U.P. (Upper Peninsula). I just put in Jacobson (and later, Carpenter), and searched the hard way. Made some connections I wouldn't have made using a standard search. I urge use of the site for all who may have relatives who died before 110 years ago in Michigan, and also it is the place to go to get certified copies of vital stats for Michigan. I had a hard time getting on until I shortened the URL: www.mdch.state.mi.us Now, where is the site like this for NY, MN, SD, etc.? I will be looking, and will share what (if anything) I find.
