    1. The Reverend Timothy Carpenter (from Attleboro, MA to TN)
    2. The Reverend Timothy Carpenter (1773-1853) was born in Attleboro, MA the son of Deacon Cyril Carpenter (1743-1811) and his wife, Lucy Lane. He was a grandson of Josiah and Huldah (Walker) Carpenter, great-grandson of Obadiah and Deliverance (Preston) Carpenter, great-great grandson of William and Miriam (Sale) Carpenter, and great-great-great grandson of William and Abigail (Briant) Carpenter, who came over on the "Bevis" in 1638. The Reverend Timothy Carpenter married Hannah Brown in 1795 in Attleboro, MA. Hannah Brown (1770-1869) was a daughter of Noan and Deborah (Wilmarth) Brown, granddaughter of William and Rebecca (Follett) Brown, great-granddaughter of James and Margaret (Denison) Brown, great-great granddaughter of James and Lydia (Howland) Brown, and great-great-great granddaughter of John and Dorothy Brown, of Wannamoisett, first of the Brown family to MA. The Reverend Timothy Carpenter was a Methodist minister and among the first "circuit riders" in the states of KY and TN. An article I wrote on The Reverend Timothy Carpenter and his wife, Hannah (Brown) Carpenter appeared in the February, 1995 issue of THE MAYFLOWER QUARTERLY. At the end of their long lives, they found themselves residing in McMinn County, Tennessee. I hope this contributes to the list of "Rehoboth Carpenters" who settled in the South. 1. TompkinsCo., NY (and Vicinity) Carpenters

    3. I was very interested in Sharon Garrett's Tompkins Co. NY Carpenters. I can add one for her collection, possibly related. Just across the county line in Summerhill, Cayuga County (only about 10 miles from Groton), Elmina Maria "Mina" CARPENTER (1843? - 1927) married Judson VAN MARTER Dec. 1867. They had four Van Marter children, all born Summerhill or Groton, and are both buried in Groton Rural Cemetery. An IGI entry, which gives her name as Elmina J. Carpenter, says her parents were Daniel Carpenter and Betsy SHEPARD. Also, Sharon, just in case you missed my query on Mary "Molly" Carpenter, I'll add it here. Maybe Mary was an older sister or other relative of your Sylvanus Jenks Carpenter. Mary "Molly" Carpenter (abt. Nov 1767- 1853) married Simon LOOMIS (1756-1842?) of Tolland, Tolland, CT, in 1787 (or 1795). (Simon was a Revolutionary War soldier, so perhaps he moved to NY because of a land grant for his service--supposition only). They may have married in Cattaraugus County, NY. They apparently moved to Tompkins County, NY in the early 1800's. About 1836 they moved to Chautauqua County where their son Daniel had moved earlier, and settled in the town of Harmony. Mary died aged 85 years, 5 months on 9 (2?) Mar. 1853, and is buried in the cemetery at Blockville,Chautauqua County. The above information is from several sources, some conflicting (as usual!): - "Loomis Families in America," 1875, rev. 1908. - http://www.rootsweb.com/~nychauta/MILITARY/REVSOL.HTM. - Family Tree Maker Family Pages--Loomis Genealogy. - IGI I'm looking for the parents of this Mary Carpenter. 1. Vermont Carpenters
    2. Daniel C Carpenter
    3. Sheila, I have Carpenters that came from Vermont. John Carpenter b.1786 probably Dover, Vermont. He married Lucena Thompson from Brownington, Vermont. They moved to Ohio. Their son - Richard Carpenter was born in Dover Vermont in 1827. He married Mary Jane Dimick from York, New York I don't have a Henry Carpenter, however Dover is not too far from Bennington so maybe we can make a connection with more info. 1. Carpenters are listed by TOWN in AB Carpenter book
    2. Dear Folks, Wm Carpenter of Rehoboth had a lot of descendants who are listed in this book. Oftentimes the name of one indivdual is listed over and over again, and looking for a common name such as John or James, etc. can take all morning, and is simply too time consuming for me to be able to help. However, I would like to at least take a quicker look for you in the book, very uncommon names are fine, when using the place index, the places are not listed in the index by county or state, they are listed alphabetically by the name of the town and then the state. Please remember to mention the name of a TOWN if you know it. Phoebe

    1. Carpenters from NY to southerns states?
    2. These Orange Co. NY wills are raising questions about which Carpenters moved from New York to the southern states. I would appreciate some help. 1. Re: Vermont Carpenters
    2. The Carpenters
    3. Sheila, I think there are several (at least) of us who are "lost in Vermont" regarding our Carpenters. Maybe we can form a club. My GGGgrandfather, John CARPENTER, b. 1797 in VT, as I call him, was indeed born in 1797. If the same source that gave me that date is right about the rest, then John was born somewhere in Vermont, and is probably of French/French Canadian ancestry. I told this source (my father) that this was not good enough. I want to tie into one of these great, deeply researched Carpenter family trees that go back to 751 a.d. He tells me that this would be nice, but he's pretty sure we don't tie into one of those trees; maybe Charpentier, or Carpentier, or. . . . He's no fun. So now I am starting to look at Vermont. Do you have any Vermont urls that might help? By the way, John ended up marrying an Irish girl (I'm starting to look for her, too) and spent most of his adult life in DeRuyter or Sheds, Madison Co., NY. George --- George R. 3. Neil, Where is Floyd County, Indiana? My Ggrandfather, Osmer Harold CARPENTER had a brother, Francis Adelbert CARPENTER, who lived in Decatur, MI. For some reason I feel like he had several daughters. I am just beginning to look for info on this. You might want to check this, if you can figure out how, esp. if Floyd Co. is near SW Michigan. Osmer was born in 1849 (but I don't know yet when Frank was born), so this seems like the right time line for an 1869 birth. Maybe. Just something to consider as you go along.
