This has been a very difficult family line. I'll share what I know, hoping someone has more information. Sometime in this Carpenter's history they migrated from France to England. Three brothers - William, John and Unknown came to America - RI. John and William moved on to New York and bought land from the Holland Land Purchase (have no dates thus far except for the fact that one of John's sons was born in RI in 1774). John's children were Caleb, John, and Sophia (Caleb the one that was born in 1774). Caleb married Rhoda Dyer (perhaps in l795) and had the following children: John, Dyer (b 1799 in Batavia NY), Samuel, Daniel, Jeremiah, Nettie, Anna and Mary. Then Rhoda dies. Caleb marries a widow, Rebecca Olds probably in Genesee County NY. The family moves to Ohio in the area of Huron, Richmond, Seneca Counties. Caleb and Rebecca had three children: Amasa Green, Charles and Rebecca J. I have names of all the children of these people. Was hoping this little line would slip neatly into one of the established Carpenter families from RI or MA - but so far I can't find a fit. Any help appreciated and will gladly share all my information. PS: in some information I found, someone had put the following migration pattern in their records: RI; VT; NY; OH Penny from Nebraska

Hello, If there is anyone out there who would be interested in a copy of an article on the 50th anniversary of Ida Myrtle Carpenter and Charles William Taylor, I have scanned it and will e-mail it to you. Just let me know. Ida is the ggggrandaughter of Archelaus Carpenter, Loyalist to NB. She is also ggggrandaughter of Samuel Kierstead, Loyalist, through his son James. She is also ggggrandaughter of Benjamin Shaw, Loyalist. They celebrated their 50th anniversary in October of 1966. Gail
Hi, For those of you who descend from the New Brunswick clan with Kierstead ancestors, the Kierstead list is setting up a chat session. It will be through the auspices of William Kierstead of Ruxton. Anyone interested please e-mail me and I will give you the details. Gail
In early April there were a couple of exchanges about searches for Abraham Carpenters. I have info on three generations of Abrahams, based on research by the late Vernon Hood of Plainfield NH, courtesy of Kay MacLeay: 1. Abraham C b.1739 Rehoboth MA, d.1797 Rutland Vt. Married Elizabeth Bliss (1738-1832). He was the first settled minister in Plainfield NH. Sons Abraham and Jesse (b. 1760 Rehoboth) 2. Abraham C (? - ?) Son of Abraham #1. Was the town "Pound Keeper" of Plainfield, and a licensed taverner. His children were born in Plainfield; Amos (1792), Vicy (1795), Cyril (1797), Abraham (1799), Hiram (1801). 3. Abraham C (? - ?) Son of Jesse (1760). Born in Plainfield NH, prob sometime after 1802. Hope this helps someone. Robin C.

Hello All; I am seeking information on LAVINA CARPENTER who Married MOSES SNYDER. I picked them up in Macomb ,Macomb County, Michigan in 1850. I have a birth year of abt 1814 for Lavina who by the census was born in Canada. Her father Rufus Carpenter and mother was Betsey ?. I would like to clear up this mess for the information I have is real flimsy. I hope some one on the list will have more information for me to straighten this out . Thank You in advance . Please contact me at sfifield@sisna.com . Thank you . Steve.

I'm looking for parents of Mary "Molly" Carpenter; b: Abt. 1768, possibly Tolland, CT. In 1787, either in Tolland or western NY, she married Simon LOOMIS (b: 7 Mar 1758 Tolland, CT), Revolutionary War soldier. They lived in Tompkins County NY, where they had 11 Loomis children. Late in life they moved to Chautauqua County. Simon died 1842 Harmony, Chautauqua County, and Mary died 9 Mar 1853 Cattaraugus County, NY. Mary may have been related to John Carpenter of Stafford, Tolland, CT, whose wife was Mary Loomis, and who had a daughter named Mary, born 1777. Bob Forrest (forrest@whidbey.com)

Some wonderful person told me where they found a reference to my George Bradford Carpenter, b. August 6, 1846 in North Brookfield. Does anyone have access to WFT Volume 16, #2356?? I would be very grateful to them for doing a lookup for me. Need any and all particulars about this man. Many thanks, Jan Robison Casselberry, FL

There are no messages yet as I have just this moment added the Carpenter list to be archived. Have fun.... Chuck * * * * * NEWS AND NOTES FROM ROOTSWEB THREADED LIST ARCHIVES ARE NOW AVAILABLE. Now you can read 122,813 messages from 877 mailing lists using your Web browser by visiting <http://archiver.rootsweb.com/>. All those messages are from just three months of beta tests -- watch this archives grow with its public debut. This is a remarkably comfortable way to browse through the posts that have been made to the lists. Be sure to use the integrated search engine to find what you are looking for. To use the Archiver you will need to pick a user name and password and you will need to accept a cookie. The reason for passwords and cookies is to keep spammers' e-mail address harvesters *out* of the archives. Because of this password-and- cookie feature, listowners can set up lists to be archived with confidence that they are *not* exposing posters' addresses to spammers. We encourage all RootsWeb listowners to visit the Archiver and then include their lists in the archives. The next step is to start making old list messages available. Thanks to Marc Nozell for implementing the threaded archives. It's great work.
