They are not in the French record, but are believed to be closely related. See Stephen's data below. As you can see I have wondered about the link to Robert le Carpentier (see notes below). This is a temporary connection. !NOTE: Is Stephen Carpenter, the same as Stephen Le Carpenter of Winterbourn' in 1323? Is he related to Robert le carpenter born abt 1167 in Huntingdon? In the "Descendants of Levi Wood", George Morton is noted as a man of affairs, and before joining the colony had acted for several years as fiscal agent for the Pilgrims. It was he who chartered the ship "Mayflower" which was the first to enter the service of transporting the Pilgrims from England to America. "Abraham Sampson in America" tells how he remained in Holland to promote the success of the colony by encouraging immigration. The work for which he is most noted is his publication since known as "Mourt's Relation". The Relation is composed of letters and journals from the chief colonists in Plymouth. He traveled on the Ann, the third and last ship to carry what are distinctively known as the forefathers. The Ann reached Plymouth early in June 1623. A year later, in June 1624, he died. Leon Clark Hills in History and Genealogy of the Mayflower Planters, agrees on his reaching the colony in 1623, but places him on the Little James, along with John Jenney and his family. There were only three families and a single man noted as passengers on the Little James. The Little James was intended to remain in the colony. In "Saints and Strangers", George Morton is noted to be of a well-to-do- Roman Catholic family of Harworth, in Bawtry and near Scrooby. He is also said to have died impoverished shortly after his arrival and his family was provided for by his brother-in-law, William Bradford. "Descendants of Levi Wood" 1894. This is why it is important to document where you got your data. Sharing helps make it more interesting. Captain William Carpenter of Rehoboth (b. 1605) has excellent sources due to the recent (in the last decade or so) finds in church records that revealed the marriage and baptisim records. Richard Carpenter (below) does not have the excellent documentation. His data has the more meager and relys on unconfirmed sources. 1. Newspaper Index for N Michigan Researchers
    2. Gaulds of Fife Lake
    3. For all you Northern Michigan researchers heres a fantastic newspaper index that our local college (Northwestern Michigan College) has online. The Osterlin Library has a computerized and a paper index covering the Traverse City Record-Eagle as well as several other newspapers from this area of Michigan. The URL to the College and Record-Eagle is: http://www.nmc.edu/~library/res/others.html In order to get the index to work correctly you will have to download the FREE TeraTerm program. Then follow the instructions from Dave Dahlquist the College Librarian to configure TeraTerm. After that it works fine. If you are lucky to find an ancestor the cost of the newspaper article is only 10cents plus $3.00 postage and handling. Here are Daves instructions to configure TeraTerm: >The easiest way to do this is to change the domain hosts in >TerraTerm. >- Start Terraterm >- Select "setup" from the upper menu followed by "TCP/IP" (if the >"new connection" window comes up automatically, just cancel it >- Alternately click once on each selection in the second "host list" >window followed by "remove" until all entries in the "host list" are >gone. >- Type "nmc.edu" in the upper "host list" window followed by >selecting the "add" button; then select "OK" >At this point, you should be able to restart Terraterm and make the >connection to "nmc.edu" and login as "lisinq" with no password >required, i.e., press <Enter> at the password prompt. >Essentially, you will be starting Terraterm yourself to access the >database rather than having your web browser do it for you. 1. Solomon Carpenter
    2. Mike Hardester
    3. Solomon CARPENTER was the father of two wives of my gg-grandfather, Henry HARDISTER. These were Mary and Catherine CARPENTER and the marriages occurred in the 1850-1860 time frame. At least one was in Pulaski Co., MO, according the Henry's Civil War pension files. Henry was married (at least) four times (Caroline THOMPSON / Mary and Catherine/ and Sarah ELEMS). One known child was my g-grandfather, (William) Henry HARDISTER. His mother was either Mary or Catherine. Two other children of Henry were Martha and John, but which lady was their mother is unknown. Can anyone shed any light on Solomon's family as it relates to the HARDISTER (HARDESTER) family? Is there any known Native American ancestry? Henry (the son) passed this information along to his children, and on down to my generation. ANY information will be very much appreciated!! Thank you. Mike: 2Lakota@Gibralter.Net

    1. Wine Politics, pt. 2
    2. Bruce E. Carpenter
    3. With the help of Anne Crawfords book A History of the Vintners’ Company, a good many of Carpenter family loose ends can be settled. Crawford tells us that the main organization of London wine-merchants was known as the Mistery of the Vintners, a curious enough name. The Mistery was not only involved in the importation of wines, but also the retail end. In other words important members of the club controlled and owned taverns. Law forbade non- members of the Mistery to sell Bordeaux wine. A number of weeks ago I published documents concerning none other than Bishop John Carpenter or Worcester himself as an owner of two taverns. At the time I was surprised by this, but no longer. Let any doubts as to the family identity of this interesting man from now on be laid to rest. Another loose end is Town Clerk John’s wife Kathrine and her connection to St. Botolph’s church. This church was a favorite charity for the Mistery. Also connected to the Mistery were properties on Fleetstreet, and again Blackfriars, which appears in Town Clerk John’s will. An additional point gleaned from Crawford is that important Mistery importers often had other professional designations. Thus a dealer in pepper might be a behind the scenes Mistery wine importer. This is important to remember in respect to ‘chaundeler’ Richard on Fleetstreet. Finally, a note on the nature of evidence in a medieval history discussion: It was suggested to me that what I have presented thus far for connections between the historical individuals I have discussed is ‘opinion’. This is outrageous. There are so few surviving documents from this period, that any assertion must be circumstantial by nature. This shows a lack of education in the individual in question. The evidence I have gathered makes an overwhelming case. Again I repeat, it is time to abandon the ‘knights and ladies’ mindset, and begin the investigation of this merchant family in earnest. Sincerely, Bruce E. Carpenter professor

    2. Bruce E. Carpenter
    3. Is Gill Carpenter in England any relation to we Rehoboth Carpenters in the US? He seems to be eager to speak for all Carpenters in England (and us as well), but surely no more than a fraction of the Carpenters left in England have any genetic connection to one another. By the 1300 there were all manner of unconnected people using the surname Carpenter. It was also a popular alias for criminals. Then there were the countless hammer and nails carpenters who used their profession as a surname. In English historical records there are countless examples of these people, whose deluded descendants now think they are part of some ancient lineage. Thanks to excellent Massachusetts’s records I can trace my ancestors back to the 1500s with certainty. Few people in England, outside the aristocracy, can do this. The Carpenter Line back from Town Clerk John was a ‘denizen’ merchant family unrelated to all the other peasants with the surname in England. Any individual who wants you to believe the Carpenters of England are a grand big family is a nutcase. Sincerely, Bruce E. Carpenter
