Dear Friends, I have read with dismay while the recent feud has erupted within our group. We certainly are passionate about our hobby; however, I think the time has arrived for us to resume helping each other with our family research and cease the hostilities. Peace to all! Mike Smith Smitty's Genealogy @ http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Valley/2822 descendant of Reuben S. Carpenter and Hannah C. Pennock
OK I have tried not to get involved in this name calling and bad behavior. But I have relay heard enough. Is this forum about genealogy and research or is it about one persons opinions and a place to share his tantrums with others? I'm a direct descendant of William Carpenter b. 1540 England. And what they did or was involved with had nothing to do with the caricature of the generations after him. And yes I am very proud to say I descend from this line of Carpenter's. So grow up and try to be more professional and let us decide what we are willing to except as truth. This is a democracy not a dictatorship. Also any good work is worth paying for, Haven't you heard that nothing good is free? Lucy

Boy, I left for a week with an empty mail box and returned to about 100 messages. Since there is so much traffic on the Carpenter list I think I'll see if anyone can help me with my question. In the following outline, most of the info has come from the AB Carpenter book in one form or another. In that book Gilbert is listed with 7 children. When I was given our family line years ago William had been added to that list of children making him #8. The references given to me were not specific as to which source put William in this family. Do any of you have anything on this family? I left out the dates of death in order to shorten the outline. Marilyn, I download mine on a floppy. I think in that way it doesn't effect my hard drive if there is a problem. Someone correct me if I'm wrong. Carolyn Carpenter
In a message dated 99-08-13 17:25:38 EDT, you write: << > I am not sure that I have Raymond George C's article from the > Carpenter Journal. I didn't have all of the issues. >> I have issue Vol 1, No. 3, Dec 1971 if that is the one you are talking about. It has Raymond George Carpenter and Harry F Rogers data. Will gladly share if you don't mind waiting till mid Sept. We are going to Virginia on vacation and have a new computer to get up and running so I can get my scanner working again. Carolyn Carpenter

Bruce - I'll bet we all have ancesters in our closets that we are not proud of. I'm a Carpenter and I know I do. So what. Why get into a spiritual truth vs historical truth argument. It isn't just a few Mormons who do not verify their lineages. From what I've seen most people do not. We all have to go on the best information we have at the time and then work from there. Even birth, death, etc., records aren't always reliable. As an attorney I can tell you, I've handled many paternity/custody/divorce cases where the father named on the birth certificate was not the biological father. Today this is something that can be challenged in our courts and today we can do DNA testing but that was not true for our ancesters. So don't be so quick to accuse. What genealogists rely on as evidence or proof of lineage is not always what would stand up in a Court of law. A birth certificate for example is only good for determining who the mother named as the father. It is not proof of anything. I think we all owe the Mormon church a great deal for the genealogical work they have done. And they did that work because of their belief in baptism for the dead. And we all benefit. Well I say praise the Lord. I'm off to my local FHC. Hava a great day. Kris
Bruce, Your rantings have gone on long enough. People have been telling you for days in their very polite and subtle ways to get on with the subject of genealogy. Your opinions on the other subjects (CDs, religion, and others) have been made and received by all. Now, let me give you my opinion: SHUT UP!!!!!!!! Very Sincerely, Keith Morris...in Suffolk, VA
Do not fail to notice that DeMelun John and Warriors Tony-Gill Carpenter will not present the real details of their research. This is because we will be expected to write a check for that when the time comes. We already heard from DeMelun John about the Tony-Gill book. Dont expect a free copy. Likewise, dont expect a free 2000 CD. I have received many a letter already asking about my own book, or my own CD. I am not in business, and most importantly, I do not have a promotional gimmick like knights and ladies of old or bold and stalwart warriors. Greetings to the gullible. Bruce Carpenter
Incidentally, my husband is a direct descendant of the Zimmerman/Carpenter line and a few of those guys were not exactly well balanced. One hid in the hills for years and his sons would go scare him. Yeah, well balanced NC Carpenters - better than intellectuals. I think not and they would be ashamed of you.. Just an observation of the ravings of Bruce Carpenter (Professor?) here on the list. It started out to be very interesting and informative. Then degraded rapidly. The descendants of said Bruce Carpenter should be duly alarmed that the insanity shown here may rear it's ugly head sooner or later down the lines. Personally, I find intellectual types very tiresome as they always love to exercise their brain's at other's expense, or so they think. I'm glad my Carpenter line originated from the Zimmerman's of Germany, otherwise, I might be worried too! Sincerely, Mike Carpenter Bruce E. Carpenter wrote: > > What is bigoted about my statement? 4 attachments are in my box. I apologize for being a wimp but I don't want to do attachments for several reasons. Is it possible to break these into individual issues so we can read the info like before? I have enjoyed much of the info -- keep it coming -- let me know where I can buy the books -- but please not in attachments. There are others who feel the same way. Marilyn
