I have noticed that there seems to be many CARPENTERS who migrated from NY to MI, especially in the 1800s. This interests me because my family did the same thing, yet many of the CARPENTERS I read about on this site (that end up in MI) seem to be very, very distantly related, if at all. It just seems a strange coincidence. Any ideas? I am still looking for anything on my gggrandfather Alonzo (or Elanson) CARPENTER, more specifically, who his father was for sure. Our "best fit" is Amasa CARPENTER who I believe had a brother named Asa. They were from NY. I will post more details later, as I don't have them with me now. Re: CARPENTER EYEBROWS - Yes, I've noticed that too, but often wondered if the trait came from my grandmother's side (POMMERICH), not my CARPENTER grandfather. This is because my father & I shared rather large circles ("bags") under our eyes, and I thought this was a Carpenter trait, but looking at pictures of my POMMERICH grandmother, it looks like it may be her side. My father (Clarence CARPENTER) had fairly thick eyebrows, as did most of his sisters and me too. They are not hugely "bushy", but relatively thick and big compared to many people. Wouldn't it be great if we could post photos and compare? Unfortunately I don't have a scanner. Mary C. Carpenter Flagstaff, AZ (Originally from Wisconsin!) I think this has gone on long enough. It seems that most of us would like to get back into shareing our information. I may not have but one name on my list so far for the name Caepenter, but I join this list to get some help. I may not have wront my name to the list yet . But it seems that the two of you may have forgot that you both are grow men. SO PLEASE TAKE ME OFF THIS LIST.. I know longer want to read this debate..... Thanks for takeing me off the list. Richard and all, This message (I didn't write it) was sent to Richard offline, as it should have been. Richard, I think it was in poor taste to forward this to the list. You and Bruce work this out without involving the rest of us. This whole mess reminds me of the kind of thing that happens in Jr. High School. I can't for the life of me imagine what would prompt a message to be sent to you by Bruce. I can only hope that he has a dry sense of humor which does NOT come across well in writing! Can we all agree to get back to research and leave the personal attacks to private emails, if you must? Sick and tired of this mess!! Betsy McGee Rice Riceys5@aol.com
Is this list back to the subject now cause I've been stuck for a long time. I am not a professional researcher just someone who really wants to know about my lineage. I do not have pages and pages and books and journals full of Carpenters. I can only go back to my ggggrandfather. I am looking to go back beyond him. He was probably no one of any importance to anyone but me and I don't think he was a butcher of children or anything either. If you all could take the time and look on your many pages, journals, books, memorials I'd appreciate any information on the following: Daniel R. Carpenter, born around 1813, New York, and wife Sally A. Wilson, born Nov. 1817, NY, died March 6, 1863, Delta Township, Eaton County, Michigan. Thank you. Kris
Okay, cousins, here's a question for you: Do your CARPENTERs have really heavy eyebrows? You know, big, bushy eyebrows with lots of personality? Maybe bushy black eyebrows? No, I'm not crazy. Well, in any case, my insanity doesn't relate to eyebrows. I just wondered, because as a kid, I noticed that quite a few CARPENTERs had bushy black eyebrows. Now I'm in my fifties, and my eyebrows would be truly deluxe, except for serious and regular trimming. Once, when I was a kid, we went to visit a female CARPENTER who was born in the 1870s, and I knew who she was the minute I saw her because. . . you guessed it. . . the eyebrows. I only ask this because I'm getting desperate for clues on some of my branch of the CARPENTERs, and thought maybe this would steer me in the right direction. (Also, because I think it's time to find a new subject of discussion, and one that is close to my heart. Well, close to my hairline, anyhow.) Thanks for your help. George --- George R. Dear All, I forwarded the above subject from SCrootsweb. It was on what to watch out for when using the internet and computer for genealogy. It was from the Nat'l Soc. of Genealogists, I think. It was very good! But it was sent yesterday and I haven't seen it appear on the list. Has it been held up? It has just disappeared. What gives? There was nothing derrogatory in it. I don't know what I did wrong except I didn't capitalize Carpenter in the address. I don't send very often so will try that with this. If it works I will resend. Linda in Albuq. I thought it would be a shame just to have it disappear from Rootsweb. I also felt that the list belonged to the subscribers to use as they wished. The only restrictions I had were those set by Rootsweb itself concerning the rule of no attachment files, like gedcoms etc. It has worked out well up until now. This is basically the first time there has been "mud-slinging" or discontent. You are all adults, I'm not going to hold anyone's hand or lead you like children. I have a life full of things besides genealogy. I actually gave up research a couple of years ago, I have all the personal family information that can be obtained from this medium. So, quite frankly the list is here for YOUR benefit, NOT mine. If someone else wants to be a den mother then you're certainly more than welcome to take it over. The original cause, John and Bruce's disagreements were over days ago. The rest of you just need to let it go, they certainly have, at least publicly :) Most of you here are related, your family, you're all in this endeavor together! So PLEASE lets just get on with the original intent, the search for our common ancestors. Unfortunately, this list does not seem to have an official monitor. The bottom line is that because of a few people the Carpenter list is going to suffer. I have been deleting all carpenter e-mails automatically for several days now with the hope that these few people would grow tired of their own voices. I see that I was too hopeful. Because no one seems to be setting any boundaries, I would like to suggest that those of you who want to bicker, insult and engage in other inappropriate behavior do so privately through your own e-mail addresses. For the rest of us I would suggest that if this behavior does not cease, we all unsubscribe and contact rootsweb with the reasons for our dissatisfaction. If anyone wants to respond to my e-mail, please show some courtesy to other members of this list by doing it privately to my e-mail address below. Thank you for your attention. PENNYPEACE@prodigy.net
