    1. [CARPENTER] Burwell Carpenter and daughter Mary Carpenter Massey (born about 1781)
    2. Hello, I have recently learned for sure that Laban Massey and wife Mary 'Polly' Carpenter, born about 1781, were the parents of my ggg grandmother Rebecca Massey Owens. I found Burwell Carpenter's will and learned that he and wife Elizabeth were Mary Carpenter's parents. I would like to learn more about Burwell and his family, and would also like to know if anyone knows Elizabeth's maiden name or anything about her family. I would appreciate any information! Thank you! LouDean

    2. While I'm grateful to Jim for his thoughtfulness in passing along the tip concerning the book on eBay--Louis W. Flanders, SIMEON IDE: YEOMAN, FREEMAN, PIONEER PRINTER (1931)--my experience with the book causes me to warn against purchasing it. It is available in the genealogy collections of many of the larger urban libraries and on FHL film. But beyond that, it is quite unreliable--even as it concerns its main focus, the Ide family--and should be approached with great caution. Gene Z.

    3. Does anyone show a marriage record in the Whitley, Knox, Bell counties area in KY or TN for a Jeremiah Carpenter and a Polly Unknown? I have Jerry /Jeremiah married four times: 1. Elizabeth Hamblen Rose, m.29 Nov 1868 in Whitley Co. KY. 2. Obedience "Biddy" Wilson, m. 27 Oct 1883 in Campbell Co. TN. She is listed as Jerry's wife also on the 1900 Whitley Co. census. Also lists her as having 8 children, 6 still alive. 3. Polly Unknown is listed as Jerry's wife on the 1910 Whitley co. KY census. She is listed there as 44 years old & born in KY. They are in the South America precinct of Whitley, page 143A, 23/24. It also appears that the enumerator has listed the number of times married by the names: it's very hard to read but it looks like this is Jerry's 4th marriage and Polly's 3rd marriage. The number of years married is listed as 10 by Jerry's name and 2 by Polly's! It looks as though the enumerator meant to put 2 children/ 2 living, and got them in the wrong column. 4. By the 1920 & 30 censuses, Jerry is with his last wife Ollie or Olie Lawson. He died in 1944. I also don't have a record of when or where this last marriage took place. Any assistance with this family would be most helpful! Pat H., Jerry's gr-gr-gr-grandaughter.

    3. From the baptismal record of the Dutch Reformed Church of Bensalem, Buck Co., PA 6/15/1714 Hezekiah, son of Abigail Carpenter of Maidenhead, NJ This must be the "expected child" in Hezekiah Carpenter's will of 1713. 1. [CARPENTER] CARPENTER/GUNTER information needed
    2. Hello, Would anyone have a CARPENTER/GUNTER connection in VA pre-1800 to about 1880.   I have a two sons of John Gunter m. Suzanna Harris in Goochland who married Carptenter girls: Enos Gunter m April 1810 VA Frances Carpenter, daughter of John and Mary ? Carpenter. John Gunter Jr.  m Aug 1804 Mary 'Polly' Carpenter, daughter of John and Mary?  Carpenter. Need Mary's maiden name and descendants. and of course all Gunter descendants as that is my main line.  Any information would be greatly appreciated. I found in Louisa death records a listing for a John Carpenter,  who died 27 Jan 1880 age 67 years (Thus born about 1813)of consumption.  He was unmarried.  Interesting thing is that Dr Enos F. Gunter, the attending physician, was the son of Frances Carpenter and Enos Gunter. Peggy in CA

Our County and Its People A History of the Valley and County of Chemung From the Closing Years of the Eighteenth Century, 1892, by Ausburn Towner page 507 Jesse Carpenter, Chemung, New York "In 1804 came Jesse Carpenter, a lineal descendant of William Carpenter who came from Amesbury, Wiltshire, England, with Roger Williams and settled at Providence, R. I., in 1636. Jesse settled on what is now the Jacob Lowman estate half a mile west of Baldwin Creek. He had two sons, Jesse, Jr., and Joseph. The latter never married. The living descendants of Jesse Carpenter, Jr., are Edward S., George e., James, and William S. Edward S. and William s. are well known and prominent residents in the town of Big Flats. George E. is a retired merchant and resides in Elmira. James Carpenter still remains on the old homestead, and the house in which he dwells occupies a site only a few rods to the west of the spot on which his grandfather erected his primitive abode more that fourscore years ago. His father, Jesse Carpenter, Jr., invented and constructed the first horse-power churn in 1832. The indenture in the ground made for the purpose of erecting this machinery is still to be seen near the present farm-house, although the apparatus itself was discontinued in 1876." Connie

    1. [CARPENTER] Mrs Butterworth...........Peck........in Rehoboth
    2. John Carpenter
    3. I was sitting by the fire today browsing thru a book called Uppity Women of the New World and there is a short article about a woman named Mary Peck Butterworth, who counterfeited the paper money of Massachusetts and neighboring colonies, in the early part of the 18th century, aided by her brother, Israel Peck and his wife Hannah. They were arrested in August of 1723 but no physical evidence was found, so they were released. I wonder if they were connected with any of the Carpenters of Rehoboth. Sounds like a good one to hang from one's family tree.
