Hello, The following link shows some of the English Carpenter wills found and or linked in 2004. http://members.cox.net/johnrcarpenter/English%20Wills%2024%20July%202004.doc John R. Carpenter La Mesa, CA Carpenter Cousins Y-DNA Project http://members.cox.net/johnrcarpenter/index.htm Donations to the Carpenter Cousins Y-DNA Project can be made at: http://www.familytreedna.com/contribution.html Carpenter CD Project Update http://familytreemaker.genealogy.com/users/c/a/r/John-R-Carpenter/index.html
This message is for the DNA group. My ggGrandfather was John N. Carpenter born in Claiborne Co., TN about 1830. His father was Peterson Carpenter, born TN 1804, probable son of Abner Carpenter, born 1781 in Amherst Co., VA. Since I am not a direct male descendant, and cannot participate in the study, but still a Carpenter descendant I was wondering if there had been any Abner Carpenter direct descendants that have participated and learned more of the ancestry of Abner. If so, please help me extend my ancestral family. Bruce, Do you know if someone is transcribing these wills? It would be very interesting to know what they say and exactly who these Carpenter people are. The wills are difficult to read. I am receiving the postings. I descend from Amos Carpenter, b. April, 1787 in Rensselaer (then Albany) Co., New York. DNA confirms that we match the Providence Carpenters. Amos settled in Granville, Ohio, then Columbus, Ohio. His son, Stephen Van Rensselaer Carpenter, and his brothers were builders in Columbus. Stephen's son, Van R., was my grandfather. Checking in, receiving e-mails. Rita
I read the postings daily and am looking for the genealogy of Carpenters who lived in TN in 1800's. Deborah was born in Rowe, MA, February 1, 1800, died in TN in 1867. Her father, Timothy Carpenter was born in Attleboro, MA, on March 2, 1773, died in TN. I assume I am on the list, as I get regular e-mails, etc. Just double-checking however as everyone else seems to be checking ib. I could have missed something. We have currently 290 members I can't say where everyone is from That is confidential info on is not avail to me. I just have a list of e mail addresses ************************************** Get a sneak peek of the all-new AOL at http://discover.aol.com/memed/aolcom30tour
I belong, read, and have posted to the list many times. I also sent my tree to John Carpenter for the old, and new CD. My information is INCORRECT from Guy Carlton Carpenter b. 1805-1809 on back to William of the Rehobeth Carpenters. All the descendent information is correct from Guy on down. I just discovered yesterday that Guy Carpenter b. 13 Dec. 1809 in Potsdam, St. Lawrence, NY, d. 1849 in Blissfield, MI, is NOT my Guy Carlton Carpenter b. 1805-1807 in NY, died 22 Sep 1850 in Collins, Erie, NY, who is buried in the Presbyterian cemetery in Gowanda, Erie, NY. My Guy married Priscilla "Polly" Smith b. 1811 in Collins, daughter of Wheeler Branch Smith and Persilla Sturdevant from CT and then NY, and I believe she died 1875 in Collins. She is buried in the same cemetery with my Guy, so I believe this is my Polly. Their children were: Charles b. 1830 in Chautauqua Co, NY (my ggrandfather) Edwin b. 1832 in Chautaugua Ruhama b. 1834 Milo b. 1835 in Cattaraugus Co. and I believe d. in Allegan MI 1905 Guy Carlton b. 1839 Erie Co NY Polly b. 1841 in PA Anna Louisa b. 1842 in PA Sara b. 1844 in PA Harlow C b. 1847 NY Ella b. 1849 CT Buried in the Presbyterian cemetery with my Guy and Polly are: John W d. 12-30-1851, Ruth D. d 19 Mar 1885, Timothy d. 3 Aug 1887, and William A. d. 1852. No birth dates are listed. There was another Guy Carlton b. 1807 in Bradford, Chautauqua, NY, d. 1858. He was the son of Ezra and Susannah Button. What a disappointment. I found this information by reading the biography of the Hon. Joel Carpenter b. 1818 in Potsdam, St. Lawrence and died 1891 in Lenawee, MI. and the bio of his brother Guy. I have that information if anyone wants it. It mentions Joel's wives, his brother David. His first wife was Theodosia Carpenter daughter of Dan Carpenter of Potsdam. H E L P . . . I would surely appreciate any suggestions as to who my Guy may be. Thank you in advance, Joyce Carpenter Sharpley joycesharpley@comcast.net
