Hi Bonita. How interesting! A few years ago, someone e-mailed me info on your grandmother and I'll try to sumarize it here. Her name is Nancy Peche, NLPeche@aol.com. She said that Ella, or Ellen, was listed in the 1870 census as Ellen Ickes, then in 1880 as Ellen Carney. Her parents were Mathias Ickes and Margaret Bixler and she had a half brother named Levi Agnew. She said that the April 1, 1887 Bedford Gazette had an account of her wedding to Henry H. Mann, including names of guests. Quite a few Carneys listed, including my great-grandfather, plus others named Bixler, Wolfe, Beegle, Hershberger, Agnew, Hiner, Pensyl, Stevens, Berkstresser and Irvine.
