    1. [CARNEY-L] Roll Call
    2. Bill Carney
    3. (let me try this again to see if I can get rid of that "not a subscriber" message) It's been a while since we've done this, so for all the new people that have subscribes recently why don't we all post a message with the Carney family information we are looking for and the names/locations of Carneys we have already discovered. If you have a web site, please post the URL as well. Thanks. Bill Carney www.billcarney.com/brickmasons

    1. [CARNEY-L] Carney - poss. Cork-Waterford to Boston, California, Michigan

    3. I've been reading this list for some time but haven't yet found anything. I'll try the roll call. A half dozen of us are searching this same line. Mary Carney, b. 1845, Ireland (Cork/Waterford?), emigrated ca. 1852 with her probable father, John (because of her young age). Not sure where. Mary married William Scanlon, place and date unknown, and is next found in Grass Valley, Nevada County, California between 1863 and 1870. William was a (probable) under- ground gold miner/diamond driller. In 1870, driven by the labor surplus caused by the end of the Civil War and the completion of the transcontinental railraod in 1869, they are found in Houghton, Michigan and soon after in Negaunee, Michigan, on that state's Upper Peninsula where they lived out their lives, William as an iron ore miner/diamond driller. William's parents, also William, and Margaret (Fox) from Ballyduff Upper, County Waterford, joined them there. I have a pretty much complete record of Mary's descendants since she was my greatgrandmother. Mary's younger brother, Thomas, is recorded on the 1900 census as having immigrated only in 1870. That date may be suspect. He is recorded on the 1900 Census as having immigrated in 1870, but there may have been a misunderstanding, and that date may mean the year he arrived in Michigan. For he married Ellen Toomey in Boston in 1870 (exact date and Church still unknown, but we just found this out the other day). Thomas and Ellen raised their nine children in Hancock or Houghton, Michigan, in copper country. I am in contact with the descendants of two of their children. But many gaps remain. Would be interested in contacting/getting further information on any of the following children of Thomas and Ellen, born in the 1870's and 1880's: Kathryn, Nancy Ann, Will, Nell, Alice, Thomas, Mame, Joseph and John (birth order not known, and certainly wrong). Thank you.
