Hi Carol, I once found a Valentine P. Carney in southern MO. I seem to remember that there were two of them, maybe a Sr. and Jr.. Naturally, I can't find the census reports now so I hope I didn't toss them out when I decided they weren't mine. There's a Valentine P.(I think it's a P.) Carney in Prince William Co. VA in 1830 but I haven't followed up on him. Our problem is, we've never seen a census with our Valentine P. listed so we have no idea where he was born. Also, the P could be for Price, as his son, Alvin's middle name is Price. Don't know if that's of any importance or not.
