It took me several minutes to locate the page Philip is referring to - it is located at : http://www.irishabroad.com/YourRoots/Genealogy/pedigree.asp Do a search on Kearney and select the one marked "of Cashel" to see the page he was referring to. Hope this save you all a bit of time.

    2. Thanks Bill for the info on the Castle. I did a search and came up with this site: http://www.tipp.ie/kearneys.htm I'm not sure if it's the same Castle or not (it must be). I'm sure someone in our family kept one of the invitations. I'll have to search in mom's vault (huge box in the top of her closet). She doesn't throw ANYTHING away. It could take years to find it.

    2. Hi Bonita. My pictures are on another computer whose modem is out of order right now, but will try to get the one of my great-grandfather in his hardware store to you if possible. It just happens that someone e-mailed me info on Ella (or Ellen) a few years ago, which I'll try to summarize. Her name is Nancy Peche (NLPeche@aol.com) and if you can't get hold of her I'll give you more details. In the 1870 census Ella was listed as Ellen Ickes, then in 1880 as Ellen Carney. Her parents were Mathias Ickes and Margaret Bixler. There's also an account of her wedding in the April 1887 Bedford Gazette. Good luck!

    2. Hi Bonita. How interesting! A few years ago, someone e-mailed me info on your grandmother and I'll try to sumarize it here. Her name is Nancy Peche, NLPeche@aol.com. She said that Ella, or Ellen, was listed in the 1870 census as Ellen Ickes, then in 1880 as Ellen Carney. Her parents were Mathias Ickes and Margaret Bixler and she had a half brother named Levi Agnew. She said that the April 1, 1887 Bedford Gazette had an account of her wedding to Henry H. Mann, including names of guests. Quite a few Carneys listed, including my great-grandfather, plus others named Bixler, Wolfe, Beegle, Hershberger, Agnew, Hiner, Pensyl, Stevens, Berkstresser and Irvine. Try e-mailing her, and if you don't get her, I'll give you more details. Good luck!

    1. Re: [CARNEY-L] Where's the Carney Castle in Ireland??
    2. I have never heard of a Carney castle, but wonder if it might be near the town of Carney. On a trip to Ireland, I accidentally discovered the town in County Sligo. Although there is not much there, I stopped at the local post office and posted some cards back to my family and asked about the Carney's in that area. I would be interested to learn more of this castle. Dianne Carney Thebolt
