Dear Meg, This is the wrong John Carmody. The one you are thinking of was born in MT.Vernon, NY and was the son of James Carmody who was born in Ireland and Immigrated to NY prob abt 1840. This James started a family in Mount Vernon and all of them pretty much stayed in that area of Westchester Co. I think the Illinois Carmody's are a different branch entirely. The father of the James in question was John. I know this only from the death certificate of James dated 1895 in Westchester Co. Sorry, Peggy
