After about 1860, he appears to have lived in Chicago, but I am intrigued by your reference to a Civil War veteran named John Carmody who also lived in Illinois. On the off chance that it is him, I have provided some information below. I'd love to hear from you if you think we have a match. John Carmody (my ggg-grandfather) was born in Ireland in March of 1825. He immigrated to the US in about 1845 and married his wife Johana around 1855. John fathered two children I know of -- Cornelius born about 1857 and Johanna born in Nov 1859. If this sounds right, please let me know! Thanks, Meg Baker
