I think we are looking at the same family. Your Patrick Carmady is probably brother to my Thomas Carmady, son of Patrick Carmady and Bridget ?Toohey, or at the very least a cousin, a son of John Carmady, who was brother to the older Patrick. Your Patrick would have been born quite soon after Patrick and Bridget arrived in NSW on 21 July, 1838 aboard the "Magistrate" from Ireland. Bridget was 22 and Patrick 27, and Patrick was engaged to work for a Mr. Gavin Ralston of Bathurst for 25 pounds/year plus rations, although the family story is that he worked for the Suttor family of Bathurst for 18 pounds /year. I have still to sort that one out! They did not have any children on the ship with them, so I presume all their children were born in Australia. His brother John came out in about 1841. The Carmady name in my line was only changed to Carmody in about 1880 - I don't know why, but probably for ease of spelling. I have a prayer book dated 1881 where it is still spelled Carmady by Mary [Hoy], Thomas' wife. Do you have the family story of the younger twin brothers, James and Joseph, who both died of fever on their way to the Queensland goldfields aged about 21? That would be great if you did, but even if not, let me know if you feel we are connected. Best Wishes, Jenny
