    3. When checking for the name Carmody in Ireland I'm sure many of you have found this is a popular name. Most CArmody's it seems were in Clare, Limerick or kerry but a few escaped the clan it seems and found the way to Cork. Many also went to England to see work , espcially farmers due to the famines. You may be able to find some lost members of family by checking the British census films starting with 1881 and working back at your local Family History Center. After many many years ( before computers), and searching for what I believed at the time, Carmody, John in Clare, as I was told that's where they originated from---- that part is true -originated but when? Back in the 10th-18th centuries, yes. But as famines came, many moved to other areas., or decide to go to England t wrk for the fare to the USA, others stayed in England. This was how I finally found my grandfather, John Carmody, with his parents and siblings, finally by searching the British census on a hunch. I had nothing to loose by doing so as after 35 years of searching I was no closer til I found this census. I then found his approx. year of birth and location, and when he immigrated to the USA, the only member of his family to take the chance. In the last 8 years I have finally found relatives, great grandchildren of our common grandparents. Try it- you may get lucky, too! Good luck.
