My gg-grandfather was Malachi Carmody Born 11-15-1832 near Lahinch, Co Clare, IRE. He died 11-8-1901 in Carrollton and is buried in St. John's cemetery in Carrollton. His parents were Patrick and Margaret O'Loughlin Carmody. Patrick was born abt. 1797 in Co. Clare IRE and died 1857 in Carrollton. He is buried in the city cemetery in Carrollton, next to his brother Peter. His father was Thomas Carmody, mother unknown. Thomas died in IRE. She was apparently killed in a hotel fire in Berlin, NH in 1916. They had 5 children. Daniel Arthur apparently disappeared after her death, and the children were raised by other members of the family. I have been trying to locate any information about him and have hit brick walls everywhere. If ANYONE has any information on him, I would appreciate it. Worked as a mariner on the Great Lakes and St Lawrence Seaway. Found him on the Ellis Island web site returning to America in 1906 from England with wife and child.I found many Chicago Carmody family members travelling back and forth from England and Chicago, so there may be a connection there. I need more information on the ancestors of John Joseph Carmody, born in Co. Clare, Ireland, 15-16 August 1863. He married Elizabeth Ann ALLOWAY 18 Nov 1882 in Co. Clare, then emigrated to Sarnia, Ontario, Canada. Their 2 older daughters have Ontario listed as their birthplaces on death certificates, but John J.'s obituary said he emigrated to Canada in 1887, meaning the girls would have been born in Ireland. In 1888, the family crossed the river and settled in Port Huron. I know of his 2 brothers, Michael, born about 1857, and Patrick, date unknown. Michael married Mary WHELAN, and had 7 children that I know of: Margaret (1879) married to James ALLOWAY; Andrew (1886), wife Mary C.; Anna (1888), married to Frank BAUMAN; Patrick (1897), and Lena (23-24 Sep 1989), married to and divorced from Chester HAYNES. Another son, Edward, resided in Boston in 1940, and I believe there was another daughter. All the children, execpt for Edward, settled in Port Huron, Michigan. Michael died in Ennis, but came over to deliver Patrick & Lena on 18 Feb 1912 to live with their older siblings. The other brother, Patrick, also stayed in Ireland.
