I remember my mother telling me that her father was born, where Abraham Lincoln was from and, at other times told me he was from Chicago. She could have been talking about Springfield. There was a post that referred to both a James and Martin, from that area who where lost from that family. The dates of birth and mothers birthplace where off in that post though. His mother was born in New Jersey, and the father was born in Ireland.I verified this from US cencus records. Thanks again, Ed

    2. Dear Meg, This is the wrong John Carmody. The one you are thinking of was born in MT.Vernon, NY and was the son of James Carmody who was born in Ireland and Immigrated to NY prob abt 1840. This James started a family in Mount Vernon and all of them pretty much stayed in that area of Westchester Co. I think the Illinois Carmody's are a different branch entirely. The father of the James in question was John. I know this only from the death certificate of James dated 1895 in Westchester Co. Sorry, Peggy

John Carmody (my ggg-grandfather) was born in Ireland in March of 1825. He immigrated to the US in about 1845 and married his wife Johana around 1855. John fathered two children I know of -- Cornelius born about 1857 and Johanna born in Nov 1859. If this sounds right, please let me know! Thanks, Meg Baker

Warren Hill died 13 Mar 1928 at the Edward Hines Jr. Hospital (VA Hospital) in Broadview, Cook Co., Illinois and was buried in Calvary Cemetery. Mildred Scott lived until 24 Aug 1980. The daughter (my grandmother) of Warren and Mildred (Scott) Hill was Mary Patricia Hill, born on 31 Mar 1921 in Chicago, IL. I am very interested in finding out more about any branch of this family. 2. Dear Gerard, I don't really know what to think about the information you give, As far as I know the immigration stopped in our family before 1850. But I don't know this for certain. I thought maybe one relative might have come through Canada to NH but have no proof whatever of this. I'll send you some of my family group sheets but if you want them I'll have to send them by snail mail. Let me know. Peggy

    3. Hi. Some of my family from Ballylongford settled in New Jersey (Hackensack and Jersey City). One of them was Nora Carmody who was a housekeeper for the Corbetts. The Corbetts are related to us as Honorah Corbett married my great great grandfather, Cornelius Carmody. My father's aunt Kitty Carmody settled in New York and married a Maloney. Her last known address was in the Bronx but I don't even think she is alive any longer. Many of our Carmody line first settled in Canada, in the Northern part of Ontario (Pembroke mostly). My grandfather was brought over to Canada by those Carmody's and he came to Detroit in the 1920s, which is where we are mostly located now. My oldest brother, Mike, is in Webster New York. Also, in New Jersey were the Guthries, who were in-laws of my grandmother, Mary Ellen O'Hagan. Timothy Guthrie sponsored my grandmother's trip to the USA, by way of Ellis Island. She first landed in Hackensack, and then moved to Detroit where she met and married my grandfather. I don't know if any of this is helpful, but maybe you'll see a connection somewhere in there. 2. Hi, I don't think its the same family - to my knowledge our family did not spread beyond NY and NJ until about 1920 with one of my cousins being born in Pittsburgh where his father was working for a year or so. The family then went back to Westchester Co., NY. The brother of this cousin married a PA girl in the '40s and later settled in Dresher, PA. These two men had children but I do not know the childrenen,s names. Up to the cousins generation there were no occurances of Patrick or Lawrence in the family. This probably is no help to you. Please let me know if you find anything.

    1. Re: [Carmody] Carmody's, Michael & Cornelius, Co. Clare to Conn.
    2. Sorry, I don,t think these people are connected to our line, although we have a Michael and a Cornelius but of different generations, not brothers, I don't think we have any connections to CT or PA, but I may be wrong. We do have a Ryan familiy through the Hylan branch, but I don't think there is a connection. I wish there were. Our family tradition says that the Carmody's came from Clare but I think perhaps they came from Limerick. Wish there was a connection - I'm completely stumped with the immigrant family and can't get across the sea with them even though I went over to visit Clare and Limmerick Best wishes in your search.
