    3. I'm finding it difficult to track John down with any degree of certainty in the earlier censuses. John is my GGG-grandfather he had a son called George. Here's what I know about them running back in time from the 1871 census. In 1871 an 83 year old John is living with George (a 45 year old tailor) and George's family at 8 St. Peter St., Carmarthen. John is shown as having been born in Carmarthen and George is from Abergwili. In 1868 John is described as a farmer on George's marriage certificate. The 1861 census shows John aged 73 living with an unmarried George aged 36 at the Glangwilly Gate House in Abergwili. George is a tailor and toll collector and John's occupation is shown as "profit of lease of Bar" (I think). John's birthplace is now Llanewydd (Newchurch). Now here's where thinks get a bit iffy. In 1851 a 25 year old George, a tailor born in Abergwilly, is to be found on Priory St., Carmarthen, visiting a Susan(?) THOMAS (a 47 year old grocer and something dealer) and her 15 year old daughter Margaret. I also find one John DAVIES, a 62 year old farmer living at Ffynhonlas in Abergwilly with wife Ann (58), and sons David (23) and William (17). John's birthplace has now changed to Abergwilly. Now these are the only farmer John and tailor George of the right ages that I can find in the Carmarthen and Abergwilly census returns. In 1841 I have John (50), again at Ffynnonlas. His family is Ann (45), John (20), Ann (22), David (13), George (10), William (7). Everything fits nicely except for John's place of birth which shifts like Pendine Sands and George's age in 1841. What makes his age all the more wrong is that he should be older than David and therefore they are out of order with what I would expect. I tried looking forward for another match for farmer John in 1861 but without success. I also scanned for another George who might be the right age or a taior's apprentice, again with no luck. I've also looked (online as I'm in Canada) for George's baptism with no real luck). 1. Is anyone researching this same line of the DAVIES family from Abergwili who would like to share information? 2. Anyone got any suggestions as to where I should look next? Thanks, Bob Nepean, Ontario, Canada
