Hello everyone - does anyone know their Latin better than I do! I have today received a copy of the entry of birth of one of my direct antecedents and the date on it looks like ' 28 dio (day) 8bug!! ' anno domini 1739. thanks Diana
Could be the 8 is for the 8th month. bug is puzzling but could be meant to represent August. Just a thought. Dorothy
One also has to bear in mind that in 1739 the year started in late March, not January first as we do today. Therefore October really was the 8th month. -----Original Message----- From: Dorothy Walker [mailto:walker@gulftel.com] Sent: July 29, 2005 10:47 AM To: CARMARTHENSHIRE-L@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [Cmn-L] Latin entries in baptismal books Could be the 8 is for the 8th month. bug is puzzling but could be meant to represent August.
