Richard I am somewhat surprised (although I have been aware of the situation for a long while) that there are two Carmarthenshire lists one of which is exclusively for CFHS members. I have not come across a similar situation in any other area. There must be a considerable numbers of researchers like myself whose forebears came from 10 or more counties thus making it impractical to belong to so many family history societies. By having a list exclusively for members, particularly where there is more traffic on that list than on the "open" one, must mean that many people miss out on queries/answers. Hi Adrian I like you and probably many others, do have forebears in several counties. I found it easier to search one line at a time, therefore one county at a time, when I have completed that line [or came to a halt], I would move on to another line, to many search outlet becomes confusing, and one would tend to get lost. As you say there are three lists for Carmarthenshire research, thus generating a lot of subscribers overall, There is only so much research we, as Carmarthenshire can pass on and handle in a day, so we do concentrate more on the members list. Hi Adrian If you have a query you do not have to be a member of CFHS, as you and I know you have been a subscriber for a long time, you can just ask your question and if I or anyone else have an answer for you, will answer you, that is what this list is for. The members list as you say is for members only, but I must say that most of CFHS members are subscribers to this list too, only a small majority are not. On the members list we have 'fun' as some people get offended if they see a recipe on a subscriber list, whereas on the members only we can help each other in any way we wish, we are a friendly bunch and quite a few of us have made contact this year. After years of running these lists I made contact with a cousin this year.....our great grandmothers were sisters, so I was very pleased about that... I think we are one of the very few Societies that members can just click on their button and there is help at hand.....as you know we are solely on the internet nothing else. This year we have on-line indexes which everyone thinks is great as they can now search all our indexes online themselves....members got together this year and 1841 census for Carmarthenshire is near completion after just a couple of months transcribing, its been brilliant!!!. 1851 was completed this year too.... So don't feel that you are missing out, just ask a question and we'll see if we can answer it. As one lister stated today this list is nowhere near as busy as it used to be, but if people do not ask questions there will be no traffic on these lists.... Pauline, I am researching the Llanelly parish which I believe is in Carmarthenshire. Would parish records for the Llanelly parish church be available to me as a member of your society?
