Dear Everyone The reason I am interested in the William POWELL murder is I think he is an ancestor of mine. It has always been believed in the family that the reason the POWELLS migrated to Tasmania was because of the murder. Apparently William POWELL'S, murderer William WILLIAMS, was never captured and vowed to kill all POWELLS. Consequently another POWELL, also William, migrated to Tasmania in the late 1840's or early 50's. It has always been believed in the family that the William who migrated to Tasmania was the son of the murdered William. But on investigation this cannot be so as the first William was murdered in 1770 and the second William wasn't born until 1828 so there is a gap of 58 years. I know that the first William and his wife Katherine Bowen had a daughter Anne born about 1754. Can anyone help me fill in this gap. Lyn Taylor Western Australia
Hi Lyn Do you know where in Carmarthenshire they were from......you mentioned a William Powell and Katherine Bowen, I looked in my marriage database is this them? 1758 10th March Llangadog/ock parish church Carms William Powell of this parish and Catherine Bowen of Llandeilo Fawr not 1754 but close enough......what information do you have, as you need to know where in Wales this took place, so that the gaps can be possibly filled in...as most indexes do not begin until after 1813.
