    3. Yes Pauline that sounds like them. Katherine Bowen was born 18 Jun 1734 Llandilo Fawr, Carmarthen, Wales William Powell born about 1730 Carmarthen Wales Marriage about 1753 Carmarthen Wales Daughter Anne born about 1754 Carmarthen Wales I found this on the IGI In a report on GENUKI : Welsh Murders it says Period 1769/1770 Place Glanareth, Bethlehem, Carmarthenshire Could Glanareth be the name of the property owned by William POWELL. This is all I know and I don't know where to look from here. An account of the trial of the conspirators in the murder is on the internet :- Early Modern Resources Wales and the Law Murder of William Powell Carmarthenshire 1770. 3. Lyn Could be them as Bethlehem is either in Llangadog or Llanddeusant neighbouring parishes of Llandeilo fawr....Glanareth could be the name of a property......do you know why he was murdered.......what account was given on it, may be a few little clues there. Was there a letter of administation after his death do you know? The IGI only contains the bishops transcripts not the actual parish registers, some are even donated by relatives, in that instance the infomation is guesswork..... I will see if I can see Catherine/Katherine Bowen's baptism in Llandeilo fawr...... 3. Found this under Glanarth.....according to the murder write up William Powell was a gentleman.....extract from Carmarthenshire Homes and Their Families.... .................Much later in 1758 William Powell gent, natural son of William Powell of Llanerch Bledri married Catherine daughter of John Bowen of Gurrey near Llandeilo. His putative father left him all his estate; and after a while he left Llanerch Bledri and settled at Glanareth. He was murdered in his parlour in 1770. The widow later married Cyprian Randeau Bunce of Canterbury, but was again a widow in 1783, then living in Hereford. William Powell left two daughters and coheirs - Catherine who in 1777 married John Lucas of Stouthall, Glamorgan, and Anne. It was after the murder of 1770 that Glanareth mansion was abondoned. In 1841 Glanareth farm was ownd by one John Samuel with William Griffiths as tenant. Hope this helps......Pauline ----- Original Message ----- From: "PR & LS Taylor" <ptaylor@esat.net.au> To: <CARMARTHENSHIRE-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Sunday, September 18, 2005 4:16 PM Subject: Re: [Cmn-L] William Powell o f C armarthenshire > Yes Pauline that sounds like them. > > Katherine Bowen was born 18 Jun 1734 Llandilo Fawr, Carmarthen, Wales > William Powell born about 1730 Carmarthen Wales > Marriage about 1753 Carmarthen Wales > Daughter Anne born about 1754 Carmarthen Wales > I found this on the IGI > > In a report on GENUKI : Welsh Murders it says Period 1769/1770 Place > Glanareth, Bethlehem, Carmarthenshire > Could Glanareth be the name of the property owned by William POWELL. > > This is all I know and I don't know where to look from here. > > An account of the trial of the conspirators in the murder is on the > internet :- Early Modern Resources Wales and the Law Murder of > William Powell Carmarthenshire 1770. > > Regards > > Lyn > > > > > > > ----- Original Message ----- > From: "Pauline James" <paulinejames@onvol.net> > To: <CARMARTHENSHIRE-L@rootsweb.com> > Sent: Sunday, September 18, 2005 9:57 PM > Subject: Re: [Cmn-L] William Powell o f C armarthenshire > > >> Hi Lyn >> >> Do you know where in Carmarthenshire they were from......you mentioned a >> William Powell and Katherine Bowen, I looked in my marriage database is >> this them? >> >> 1758 10th March Llangadog/ock parish church Carms >> William Powell of this parish and Catherine Bowen of Llandeilo Fawr >> >> not 1754 but close enough......what information do you have, as you need >> to know where in Wales this took place, so that the gaps can be possibly >> filled in...as most indexes do not begin until after 1813. >> >> Pauline >> >> >> ----- Original Message ----- >> From: "PR & LS Taylor" <ptaylor@esat.net.au> >> To: <CARMARTHENSHIRE-L@rootsweb.com> >> Sent: Sunday, September 18, 2005 1:54 PM >> Subject: [Cmn-L] William Powell o f C armarthenshire >> >> >>> Dear Everyone >>> >>> The reason I am interested in the William POWELL murder is I think he is >>> an ancestor of mine. >>> >>> It has always been believed in the family that the reason the POWELLS >>> migrated to Tasmania was because of the murder. >>> >>> Apparently William POWELL'S, murderer William WILLIAMS, was never >>> captured and vowed to kill all POWELLS.
