Suzanne do you have an approx age for Mary Davis/Evans Do not know of the place name you mention, but imagine being an Australian hearing a broad welsh accent and never even seen the welsh language let along spell it.....if she could not read or write it would be spelt as they heard it...... Perhaps Llangendeirne.....you say and it see what that sounds like!! Take a look at our webpages there is a parish map there to enlarge and download all the Carmarthenshire parishes are listed http://www.carmarthenshirefhs.co.uk Pauline ----- Original Message ----- From: "Suzanne" <suzyq4@bigpond.com.au> To: <CARMARTHENSHIRE-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Tuesday, December 20, 2005 9:47 AM Subject: [Cmn-L] MARY DAVIS > Hello , my name is Suzanne and I am researching my Fathers family > In 1841 Mary Davis left aboard the "Emma Eugenia" from Woolwich London > transported to Australia for 7 years for stealing , she arrived in 1842 . > Mary had been tried and convicted at Glamorgan Quarter Sessions, > Her family in Carmarthenshire were listed as Mother Elizabeth, brothers > John and David and a sister Rachel. > I am trying to find out where the family lived in Carmathenshire > Facts I have -Mary was known and tried as Mary Evans > Mary's father was Thomas Davis/ Davies, her mother Elizabeth > On a legal document written in 1867 she lists her birthplace as " > Lattigyne" in another it looks like "Lathgyne" (Parish) > I would like to find out where she came from, can someone help me please, > Mary was my GreatgreatGrandmother > Suzanne > suzyq4@bigpond.com > > > ==== CARMARTHENSHIRE Mailing List ==== > GenWeb & Genconnect pages for your genealogical web links and research > questions & Quiries. > http://www.carmarthenshirefhs.co.uk >
Hello Pauline, I was thinking the person who wrote the place name down , probably wrote it as it sounded to them hence the wrong pronunciation , I was thinking Llangain? Mary would have been born abt 1824 as she was 18 when she arrived in Tasmania in 1842 As I said I know her parents were Thomas and Elizabeth Davis, then again it could have been Davies . this is so frustrating.
